La Tesis tiene los siguientes campos de desarrollo: el primero aborda la evolucin terica y conceptual de las categoras de anlisis referidas al Espacio, la Regin, la Frontera y la Integracin en el marco de una visin territorial del desarrollo en sub espacios nacionales que confluyen formando un Espacio Regional Fronterizo; el segundo discurre examinando, en dos escenarios que el Per comparte con Bolivia y Ecuador, la dimensin real del proceso hasta demostrar tangiblemente una dinmica econmica, social y poltica propia de dichos espacios; el tercer eje examina el rol del Estado en la administracin y gestin de aquellos procesos tanto desde una plataforma unilateral como en sus expresiones de carcter multilateral, dentro de las cuales se subraya la participacin de la subregin andina. ABSTRACT This Thesis includes the following fields to be developed: the first one addresses the theoretical and conceptual evolution of the categories of analysis concerning the Space, the Region, the Border, and the Integration, within the framework of a territorial vision of development in national converging sub-spaces forming a Border Regional Space; the second one flows examining in two scenarios that Peru shares with Bolivia and Ecuador, the actual dimension of the process to demonstrate in a tangible manner a peculiar economic, social, and political dynamics of those spaces; the third axis examines the States role in the administration and management of those processes both from a unilateral platform and in its expressions of multilateral nature, among which the participation of the Andean sub-region is emphasized.

La cooperación fronteriza debe ser parte de la columna vertebral de las acciones que fomenten la integración regional. Si no dejamos atrás la visión tradicional de las fronteras como espacios amenazantes, vulnerables y conflictivos, y promovemos firmemente la visión de las fronteras como espacios de encuentro que fomenten la integración regional y subnacional, esta tarea se vuelve muy dificil. La relación entre cooperación fronteriza e integración regional va en ambas direcciones. No sólo es necesaria la construcción de confianza y el trabajo complementario e integrado en las fronteras para lograr una integración regional más efectiva, también los mecanismos de integración regional sirven como instrumentos y, por tanto, deben abrir los espacios necesarios para el diálogo de los diversos actores protagonistas del desarrollo de las fronteras. El tema fronterizo debe contemplarse de manera importante en las agendas de los mecanismos regionales y subregionales. Todo esto implica que el proceso de construcción de un proyecto político estratégico de integración regional latinoamericana debe incluir entre sus puntos el fomento, desarrollo y construcción de una visión estratégica del desarrollo y la cooperación fronteriza. [Description in English] Latin America and the Caribbean: Transborder Cooperation From divided territories to meeting spaces Border cooperation must be part of the backbone of actions to encourage regional integration. If we do not move on from the traditional view of borders as threatening, vulnerable and conflictive spaces and strongly promote the view that they are instead meeting spaces that encourage regional and subnational integration, then that task will be made very difficult. The relationship between border cooperation and regional integration works both ways. Not only is it necessary to build trust and work in a complementary and integrated fashion with regard to borders in order to achieve more effective regional integration, regional integration mechanisms also serve as instruments and should therefore open up the necessary spaces for dialog between the various main actors involved in border development. The border issue must be urgently addressed on the agendas of regional and sub-regional mechanisms. This means that the process of putting together a politico-strategic project for Latin American regional integration must include the promotion, development and construction of a strategic vision on border development and cooperation.

English Abstract: This study analyzes the formation of bordering spatial factors in the municipalities of Herran (Norte de Santander) and Rafael Urdaneta (Táchira), based in the agricultural trade and how the municipalities are linked and generate effects in the regional integration and development. A literature review and a field survey were conducted followed by questionnaires and interviews with residents of the targeted study area that are involved in the production system that ranges from crop production on the Colombian side to marketing on the Venezuelan side. The main results show that economic factors are crucial to the common dynamic, with a greater dependence from Colombia to Venezuela. The current situation demonstrates the kind of political difficulties that interfere with the needs and development of border communities. It is necessary to build a binational process to achieve consistent development so that the process of integration can be conceived from the borders.

The "southern" - as much a Hollywood genre as the "western" - is the subject of The Celluloid South. For decades the film industry, to provide profit-making entertainment, offered the public movies that neither raised difficult issues nor offended a majority of the ticket-buyers. As a result, Hollywood romanticized the south, particularly the antebellum era, in hundreds of films like Uncle Tom's Cabin, Gone With the Wind, Birth of a Nation, and Jezebel. During the 1920's and especially the Depression, the "moonlight and magnolia" romances increased to such an extent that Hollywood has been struggling since the late forties to rid films of the traditional images of the "southern." In his exploration of the "southern," Edward D.C. Campbell, Jr. examines the film plots and images - their social, literary, and historical origins, and their impact on the creation of a popular mythology of the south. The unrealistic but seemingly harmless characterizations of a planter society, and agricultural economy, and especially slavery have hindered the region's self-assessment and warped the nation's perspective on race. Campbell looks beyond the productions themselves, however, to advertising techniques and the reactions of the viewers and reviewers in his examination of the "southern," its popularity and its decline, and its influence of the public's conception of history, contemporary conditions, and black/white relations. The Celluloid South is not a study of film per se, but of film as a reflection of society and the ramifications inherent in popular entertainment. Readers interested in southern history, popular culture, or cinema studies, as well as movie fans, will find The Celluloid South a fascinating look at Hollywood's development of the southern myth.
