Sir Roy Harrod was one of the foremost economists of the twentieth century who made pioneering contributions in several branches of economics including: trade cycle theory; growth theory; trade theory; monetary economics; imperfect competition theory, and methodology. This volume arises out of a conference to celebrate the sixtieth anniversary of the publication of his book The Trade Cycle in 1936. After an introductory essay by Walter Eltis, a student of Harrod, this volume contains important essays on the interpretation of Harrod's work in the field of economic dynamics by Danial Besomi and Maurizio Pugno, and in the field of trade and growth by Tony Thirlwall, John McCombie and Luca Bendictis. Finally, Warren Young, in the process of writing Harrod's biography, uses correspondence between Harrod and Haberler to elucidate Harrod's views on trade theory, international monetary reform and inflation.

Development And International Economics written by André Nyembwe and has been published by Presses univ. de Louvain this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2008 with Business & Economics categories.

The book provides a collection of interesting analytical views on contemporaneous issues of development and international economics such as globalization, brain drain toward developed countries, the European business cycle’s impact on African economies, the importance of capital maintenance for growth, and so on. The research results provided by the authors, of whom several are – or have been – members of the Académie Louvain, can be used as starting points for further development of the various covered fields. The book turns out to be a “value-added” contribution to economic literature advances and a remarkable opportunity to honor the memory of Michel Norro, who had a long-lasting career in teaching international economics and critiquing development policies, with a special focus on those which affect African economies. People interested in African economy analysis have inherited his valuable book Économies africaines.

Selected Essays Of Gottfried Haberler written by Gottfried Haberler and has been published by Cambridge, Mass. : MIT Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 1985 with Economics categories.

Gottfried Haberler's contributions to the field of international trade and finance began in the 1920s with a seminal paper on comparative costs. His continuing contributions to open economy analysis, development, business cycles and inflation, the theory of money, and rational expections are highlighted in this selection of 27 essays spanning the years 1925 to 1980. The essays are divided into five major sections, representing the subdisciplines of Haberler's most significant work. The first section on international trade contains his work on comparative costs, comparative advantage, and the location of production and international trade. A section on international finance deals with the state of the international monetary system under conditions of world recession, control over international reserve, U.S. balance-of-payments policy, currency depreciation and the terms of trade, and transfer and price movements. The topic of inflation and business cycles is covered in the third section, with essays on income policies, stagflation, and the Great Depression, and the international transmission of inflation. Section four deals with economic development, and the concluding section contains essays on the theory of money and general macroeconomic theory. Several articles are translated here for the first time and there is a complete bibliography of Haberler's work up to 1980. Gottfried Haberler is Professor Emeritus of Economics, Harvard University, and Resident Scholar at the American Enterprise Institute. Anthony Koo is Professor of Economics at Michigan State University.

Why The Poor Get Richer And The Rich Slow Down written by W. W. Rostow and has been published by University of Texas Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2011-03-30 with Business & Economics categories.

Bearing on fundamental issues of economic theory, history, and public policy, this volume elaborates and goes beyond themes enunciated in W. W. Rostow's previous works. The eight essays presented here are unified by the author's insistence that neo-Keynesian and neoclassical theory are an inadequate basis for economic analysis and policy prescription. Changes in technology and in the supply of energy, food, and raw materials, he contends, must be taken into account. The scale and character of the investments required to respond to these changes link his analysis back to conventional income analysis. Rostow outlines in several contexts the framework for a general, disaggregated theory of production and prices that meets this criterion. The theoretical and historical essays include a review and unification of various long-cycle theories; a formal mathematical model of the Kondratieff cycle; a review of theories relating technology and the price system, including Rostow's own formulation of the appropriate linkage; a lengthy analysis of the pre-1914 relation between money and prices, including a detailed critique of modern monetarist interpretations; and an analysis of the proposition that economic growth assumes an S-shaped path of acceleration and deceleration. The policy essays include an examination of the links between energy-related investment, full employment, and patterns of regional development in the United States; the discussion of an appropriate framework and procedure for North-South international economic negotiations; and the text of a 1965 talk on inflation that touches on the relations among economics, economists, and the performance of societies as a whole.
