Os textos que compõem este livro vinculam-se às três linhas de pesquisa do Programa de Pós-Graduação em Estudos Linguísticos da Universidade Federal da Fronteira Sul (UFFS): 1) Práticas discursivas e subjetividades; 2) Diversidade e mudança linguística; 3) Língua e cognição: representação e processamento da linguagem. Todos os textos atestam a qualidade, o amadurecimento e a consolidação da pesquisa em Estudos Linguísticos da UFFS e, de modo geral, dão chance ao leitor de conhecer a história do tempo presente da produção do conhecimento científico do PPGEL. A primeira parte trata de reflexões sobre o conceito de complexidade linguística, da intersecção entre Linguística e Literatura, através da metáfora do literário e do grande empreendimento de organizar o inédito Atlas Linguístico das línguas em contato nesta parte da Fronteira Sul. A segunda dedica-se a abordagens que pendem para a perspectiva formal da gramática. E a última parte trata de posturas discursivas.
