Buku ini mengkaji secara mendalam khususnya tentang interaksi sosial antara etnis Tionghoa dengan etnis Madura. Walaupun banyak ditemukan artikel jurnal yang lebih dahulu membahas tentang interaksi sosial atau hubungan sosial antara etnis Tionghoa dengan pribumi di Indonesia seperti hubungan etnis Tionghoa dengan etnis Jawa, etnis Batak, etnis Melayu dan etnis pribumi lainnya, namun yang secara spesifik membahas tentang interaksi sosial antara etnis Tionghoa dengan etnis Madura sampai saat ini belum ada. Adapun yang menjadi titik fokus penelitian penulis ini meliputi tiga aspek; pertama proses terbentuknya interaksi sosial antara etnis Tionghoa dengan etnis Madura, kedua, simbol-simbol terjalinnya harmonisasi interaksi sosial etnis Tionghoa dengan etnis Madura, dan ketiga, social capital (modal sosial) dalam interaksi sosial etnis Tionghoa dengan etnis Madura. Salah satu simbol yang menunjukkan terjalinnya harmonisasi antara etnis Tionghoa dan Madura, seperti nampak pada arsitektur bangunan Masjid Agung Sumenep, Labang Mesem, desa Pabian sebagai miniatur simbol harmonisasi antar etnis dan beda agama serta sebutan Pacenan di Kecamatan Batang-Batang serta sebutan sejenis lainnya sebagai simbol kehadiran etnis Tionghoa dalam waktu lama. Terjalinnya harmonisasi yang kuat antara etnis Tionghoa dan etnis Madura karena didasarkan pada modal sosial yang kuat seperti adanya kesamaan filosofi antar dua etnis tersebut, nilai-nilai agama yang diyakini sebagai pedoman kesolehan sosial, sikap terbuka antar kedua belah pihak, dan dukungan dari beberapa pihak dalam hal ini pemerintah daerah.
