Il ne vit s'élever sur son sol ni grande abbaye, ni forteresse redoutable; il ne fut pas la propriété de guerriers ou de ministres fameux; il ne fut pas le théâtre d'une de ces batailles qui décident du sort des états et modifient la situation d'une contrée. Cependant considérée au point de vue où nous voulons nous placer, on peut dire que son histoire offre un intérèt réel. Nous nous proposons en effet de rechercher les origines de la civilisation sur le territoire de Douillet, d'étudier les développements successifs de sa population, enfin de montrer que] concours d'efforts et de vertus il a fallu aux générations passées pour constituer la Commune dans son état actuel.
