El Perú es un país que alberga una multiplicidad de ecosistemas, especies, recursos genéticos y pueblos indígenas. El proyecto “Gestión sostenible de la agrobiodiversidad y recuperación de ecosistemas vulnerables en la región andina del Perú a través del enfoque de sistemas importantes del patrimonio agrícola mundial (SIPAM)” surge como una iniciativa para reducir las amenazas a la conservación en las zonas andinas. Busca realizar acciones para conservar in situ y aprovechar de manera sostenible la agrobiodiversidad a través de la preservación de sistemas de agricultura tradicional, la gestión integrada de los bosques, agua y recursos de la tierra y el mantenimiento de los servicios ecosistémicos. Considerando el tiempo transcurrido y el gasto realizado, los resultados alcanzados por el proyecto son incipientes. Si bien sobresale la atención dada a la conservación in situ y el manejo sostenible de la agrobiodiversidad, la restauración del paisaje y los temas de comercialización y mercados tienen poco nivel de avance. En términos generales, existen riesgos significativos para la sostenibilidad de las acciones realizadas.
