Hari Rabu, (8/1/2020), operasi tangkap tangan Komisi Pemberantasan Korupsi menangkap Komisioner KPU, Wahyu Setiawan. Wahyu dibawa penyidik KPK dengan barang bukti suap 600 juta rupiah dari Harun Masiku, seorang bekas caleg yang mengincar kursi PAW dari Riezky Aprilia, anggota DPR F-PDIP dapil Sumatera Selatan I. Harun hanya bermodal perolehan 5.878 suara untuk menggeser Riezky dengan 44.402 suara. Order PAW diatur dari fraksi dengan jalur personal kepada Wahyu, sekalipun tersirat tanya, bagaimana mungkin 5 ribu suara akan menggantikan 44 ribu suara? Atas dasar penafsiran sepihak fatwa Mahkamah Agung, Masiku mengincar kursi Senayan. 'Siap mainkan' adalah kata sandi Wahyu saat menyanggupi “projek” dengan total mahar 900 juta rupiah. Selain Harun Masiku, kasus serupa juga terjadi di Gerindra. Tanggal 16 September 2019 Mulan Jameela bersama tiga calon legislatif lainnya diloloskan ke Senayan. Semula Mulan cs tidak lolos karena memang kalah perolehan suara. Manuver kemudian bergerak terstruktur mulai dari Dewan Pimpinan Pusat. Kandidat yang lolos, lebih dahulu dipecat dari partai sebelum penetapan resmi KPU sehingga mereka kehilangan legal standing. Jadilah Mulan, Katherine, Yan Parmenas Mandenas, dan Sugiono vi EVALUASI SISTEM PEMILU DI INDONESIA 1955-2019 sebagai caleg terpilih versi partai. Status keterpilihan empat caleg sebelumnya lenyap, sekalipun mereka mendapat legitimasi dari rakyat.

Electronic voting is often seen as a tool for making the electoral process more efficient and for increasing trust in its management. Properly implemented, e-voting solutions can increase the security of the ballot, speed up the processing of results and make voting easier. However, the challenges are considerable. If not carefully planned and designed, e-voting can undermine the confidence in the whole electoral process. Technology upgrades in elections are always challenging projects that require careful deliberation and planning. Introducing e-voting is probably the most difficult upgrade as this technology touches the core of the entire electoral process—the casting and counting of the votes. E-voting greatly reduces direct human control and influence in this process. This provides an opportunity for solving some old electoral problems, but also introduces a whole range of new concerns. Consequently, e-voting usually triggers more criticism and opposition and is more disputed than any other information technology application in elections. This Policy Paper outlines contextual factors that can influence the success of e-voting solutions and highlights the importance of considering these factors before choosing to introduce new voting technologies.

Democracy for Sale is an on-the-ground account of Indonesian democracy, analyzing its election campaigns and behind-the-scenes machinations. Edward Aspinall and Ward Berenschot assess the informal networks and political strategies that shape access to power and privilege in the messy political environment of contemporary Indonesia. In post-Suharto Indonesian politics the exchange of patronage for political support is commonplace. Clientelism, argue the authors, saturates the political system, and in Democracy for Sale they reveal the everyday practices of vote buying, influence peddling, manipulating government programs, and skimming money from government projects. In doing so, Aspinall and Berenschot advance three major arguments. The first argument points toward the role of religion, kinship, and other identities in Indonesian clientelism.
