Alister McGrath is one of the premier evangelical theologians of our day. In this book, leading evangelical scholars, including Gabriel Fackre, John Frame, William Abraham, Gerald Bray, and Clark Pinnock, use McGrath's work as a lens through which to offer a contemporary assessment of evangelical theology. The volume sets McGrath in context and argues that a "dynamic" brand of evangelical theology-such as what his thinking represents-is necessary for the evangelical wing of the church to be semper reformanda (always reforming). Chapters focus on the essence, identity, strengths, weaknesses, and future of evangelical theology, offering a snapshot of a movement in transition.

Thomas F. Torrance is regarded as one of the foremost Reformed theologians of the second half of the twentieth century. He taught for thirty years at New College, University of Edinburgh, Scotland, until his retirement in 1979. He has written extensively, contributing more than twenty major works of theology and hundreds of articles in a variety of languages. In this book Elmer Coyler provides access to Torrance's voluminous writings. Demonstrating the profoundly trinitarian and evangelical spirit of Torrance's theology, Coyler also captures his concern to formulate a renewed theological method in the tradition of Athanasius. Coyler helps us see how, in Torrance's view and practice, a truly scientific approach must be godly in order to be accurate and faithful.

The Theological Method Of Stanley J Grenz written by Brian S. Harris and has been published by this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2011 with Evangelicalism categories.

This book examines Canadian theologian Stanley J. Grenz's proposed model for evangelical theological construction. This model utilizes scripture, tradition and culture as the sources for theology, and has the Trinity, community, and eschatology as its focal motifs. In spite of the rapid growth of evangelicalism there is a paucity of reflection on its theological method. The transition from modernity to postmodernity, with the accompanying call for a postfoundationalist rather than a foundationalist method, has provided additional challenges to evangelicalism. In exploring and evaluating Grenz's theological method, this work tests the proposition 'that Stanley Grenz's theological method effectively revisions evangelical theology.' To ascertain the validity of the proposition, it utilizes four evaluative questions which explore the originality, theological coherence, appropriateness and effectiveness of Grenz's method for evangelical theology. The application of his model in his text, Welcoming but Not Affirming, serves as a test case to determine the implications of his method. Concluding that Grenz's model makes only a modest contribution towards revisioning evangelical theological method, the concluding chapters of the research explore ways to supplement Grenz's model to allow a stronger affirmation of the research proposition. Utilizing Wolterstorff's concept of control beliefs, it proposes that Grenz's model would be more effective if he added control to his belief to guide theological construction, and motivates for adopting the control belief the gospel liberates.
