Die 'Millstätter Predigten', eine Sammlung von 72 deutschsprachigen Musterpredigten aus der Zeit um 1200, enthalten in geradezu idealtypischer Weise die katechetischen und liturgischen Standardinformationen zu jedem Predigtanlass. Unter den acht großen Sammlungen der Frühen deutschen Predigt, die zwischen 1170 und 1230 entstanden und im europäischen Vergleich ein quantitativ und qualitativ einzigartiges Corpus katechetischer und adhortativer Texte in der Volkssprache ihrer Zeit darstellen, waren nur die 'Millstätter Predigten' bislang unerschlossen; sie waren zugleich das letzte große Textkonvolut aus der Zeit um 1200, das noch nicht durch eine Edition zugänglich gemacht war. Ihre Bedeutung für das Verständnis des theologischen Wissenshorizonts und Wissensbestands von Laien um 1200 kann nicht hoch genug eingeschätzt werden. Die Edition bietet Text, kritischen Apparat und Verständnishilfen, vollständige Nachweise der zugrundeliegenden Bibelstellen und Liturgika, Glossar und Verzeichnisse, in der Einleitung die Darstellung der Überlieferung und Streuüberlieferung, eine Untersuchung des Entstehungskontexts und eine Typologie der Predigtformen.

Bible Missals are manuscripts that integrate liturgical prayers for the Mass with the scriptural texts of the Latin Vulgate. Long overlooked by scholars, Bible Missals offer important evidence for the development of the medieval liturgy and the liturgical use of scripture by medieval Christians. This monograph is the first comprehensive analysis of the codicology and contents of Bible Missals. Mostly produced in the first half of the 13th century by professional book makers in centers like Paris and Oxford, these hybrid manuscripts were customized for secular, monastic, and mendicant patrons. This monograph focuses on Dominican Bible Missals, the largest group within the repertoire, providing detailed codicological descriptions of each manuscript and analyzing their texts for the Order of Mass and selected liturgical formularies, including prayers for the feast of St. Dominic. For medieval Christians, the words and events of scripture were continually called to mind and reenacted in the sacramental rites of the Mass. Bible Missals provide important material evidence for this interplay between word and sacrament.

The Commentary on Matthew is one of Origen’s works we can partially read in Greek language. Nonetheless, this Greek text doesn’t reproduce Origen’s work in its original form but in a later abridgement. The shortened nature of the Greek text is demonstrated thanks to a close comparison with fragments from exegetical catenae (cap. 1) and with an anonymous Latin translation (cap. 2). Particular attention is devoted to a 5th-century palimpsest fragments of the unabridged Commentary (cap. 4). The previous editor of the Commentary tried to restore the original form Greek text by mean of large number of conjectures mainly based on the Latin translation. His results weren’t anyway satisfactory. In this volume the autonomy of the Greek abridgement is reestablished: a sample of this enterprise is offered in the new critical edition of books 12 and 13. This volume offers a comprehensive study of the manuscript tradition of the Commentary on Matthew (cap. 5) and takes into consideration the general process of reduction undergone by Origen’s sometimes verbose production.
