Your Everyday Art World written by Lane Relyea and has been published by MIT Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2013-08-30 with Art categories.

A critic takes issue with the art world's romanticizing of networks and participatory projects, linking them to the values of a globalized, neoliberal economy. Over the past twenty years, the network has come to dominate the art world, affecting not just interaction among art professionals but the very makeup of the art object itself. The hierarchical and restrictive structure of the museum has been replaced by temporary projects scattered across the globe, staffed by free agents hired on short-term contracts, viewed by spectators defined by their predisposition to participate and make connections. In this book, Lane Relyea tries to make sense of these changes, describing a general organizational shift in the art world that affects not only material infrastructures but also conceptual categories and the construction of meaning. Examining art practice, exhibition strategies, art criticism, and graduate education, Relyea aligns the transformation of the art world with the advent of globalization and the neoliberal economy. He analyzes the new networked, participatory art world—hailed by some as inherently democratic—in terms of the pressures of part-time temp work in a service economy, the calculated stockpiling of business contacts, and the anxious duty of being a “team player” at work. Relyea calls attention to certain networked forms of art—including relational aesthetics, multiple or fictive artist identities, and bricolaged objects—that can be seen to oppose the values of neoliberalism rather than romanticizing and idealizing them. Relyea offers a powerful answer to the claim that the interlocking functions of the network—each act of communicating, of connecting, or practice—are without political content.

Every Day Is A Good Day written by John Cage and has been published by Hayward Gallery Publishing this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2010 with Art, American categories.

This book is published to accompany the first major UK retrospective of the visual art of the pioneering American composer and artist John Cage (1912ndash;1992). The use of chance operations, in particular the Chinese Book of Changes, or I Ching, was central to Cage's compositional method and his approach to his drawings, watercolours and prints, many of which are reproduced here for the first time. Cage's practice is explored in new interviews with key collaborators: printmaker Kathan Brown; Laura Kuhn, Director of the John Cage Trust; artist Ray Kass; and Julie Lazar, curator of Cage's 1992 'composition for a museum', Rolywholyover: A Circus. Extracts from a 1966 interview between Cage and the critic Irving Sandler are also included. At the heart of the book is a 'Companion to Cage': a selection of quotations by Cage and notes on key themes and influences from 'Alphabet' to 'Zen', making it essential reading on this important figure of the twentieth-century avant-garde. Published to accompany the UK touring exhibition in 2010 ndash; 2011 at Baltic Centre for Contemporary Art, Gateshead; Kettle's Yard, Cambridge; Huddersfield Art Gallery; Hunterian Art Gallery, Glasgow; De La Warr Pavilion, Bexhill-on-Sea.

Art Day By Day written by Alex Johnson and has been published by National Geographic Books this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2021-11-09 with Art categories.

A daily almanac that presents a selection of art historical events for every day of the year, from momentous and headline-grabbing to intimate, amusing, and illuminating. Taking a novel approach to the history of art, Art Day by Day aims to change the pace at which the story is told. Presenting snapshots of the most exciting, unusual, and noteworthy art events from around the world and throughout history through direct testimonies, eyewitness accounts, and contemporary chroniclers, this volume is a unique look at the past. Drawing on articles, diaries, interviews, letters, speeches, transcripts, and more, Art Day by Day offers an important event that happened on that day in the history of art. Here are the stories of famous paintings, ancient sculptures, comic strips, photographs, murals, manifestos, and marriages, from terracotta soldiers to a self-shredding Banksy. Each day has its own section, starting with an extended quote giving artists, critics, and commentators their voice to speak directly to us, followed by a brief explanatory text, and ending with other important events in art on that day such as births, deaths, and exhibition openings. Not every entry is momentous, but each one is significant. Yes, there are thefts, murders, artistic mishaps, and eureka moments, but there are also episodes such as President Theodore Roosevelt’s doodles, Michelangelo writing to his nephew about his kidney stones, and Monet getting the green light for his water garden. Every day has a story to tell. An informative overview of culture throughout the ages, Art Day by Day is as enlightening as it is entertaining: the perfect armchair companion and reference for art lovers everywhere.
