This book is a collection of the essays complied over several years of reflecting on my expereiences and the experiences of others. Each chapter speaks to the hopes, pain, and mysteries of our lives. They pose questions about generosity, suffering, conscience, justice, race, poverty and charity. They ask what good are we and how should we live? They raise questions about religious life and belief then offer possible answers in a variety of ways. While religion is not enough to answer all the questions life presents, it offers a way of struggling to live with integrity and concern for others. As the preface says: The chapters are short and each begins with an anecdote about either the poignant - a woman fleeing from her burning home, a Jew given hospitality in a Palestinian refugee camp, a friend with dementia, or the seemingly banal - feeling pain while bending over a laundry basket, sharing an umbrella, or the controversial - science versus religion, immigration, racism. Succinctly told, the stories trigger questions that give us pause - "Why is God always punishin' folks who are tryin'?"- and lead us into our depths, not for "answers" but for insights - "Healers are hosts who patiently and carefully listen to the story of the suffering stranger."

Drawing on his Roman Catholic background, personal interviews with Catholics and Evangelicals, and years of research, Chris Castaldo takes readers on a fascinating and practical exploration of the challenges and opportunities encountered by Catholics who become Evangelicals. He examines the five major reasons why Christ’s followers often leave the Catholic Church, and shows how to emulate Jesus in practical ways when engaging Catholic friends and family. And, with humor and authenticity, he shares his own faith journey in order to help readers understand and work through their own.For those who are tired of scratching their head in confusion or frustration about how their Catholic background may influence their walk with Jesus, and why on earth their Catholic family believes they’ve gone off the deep end, Holy Ground offers vast insight and practical help. More than providing historical perspective, theological reflection, and practical lessons, it shows readers how to emulate the grace and truth of Jesus Christ in relating to the Catholic people whom they love.

Moses saw a burning bush, but it wasn't consumed. Being curious as to why it wasn't consumed, he walked toward it in order to get a closer look. As he drew near, God spoke to him out of the midst of the burning bush and told him to stop and take off his shoes; he was standing on holy ground (Exodus 3:1-5).After revealing Himself to Moses as the God of his father's Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, the LORD told Moses that he had been chosen to deliver Israel out of slavery in Egypt into the land He had promised to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. God speaks to us today from the Bible just as He spoke to Moses from the burning bush. The Bible is our burning bush. Wherever the Bible is read, preached or taught, the one who is reading, preaching or teaching as well as those listening are on holy ground. The preacher or teacher is holy-doing what God called him or her to do as Moses did what the LORD call him to do. When the listeners do what is spoken, they also become holy people. In the Old Testament, God dwelt in a tent made according to the instruction He gave Moses on Mount Sinai (Exodus 25-27). His laws were written on tablets of stone (Exodus 24:12), and His glory was a cloud that filled the tent (Exodus 40:34). All three were observable and holy, and anyone in their presence was on holy ground. The New Testament writers explain how the tent, laws, and cloud that were observable and holy in the Old Testament become spiritual and holy in the life of those who are justified through faith in Jesus Christ (Romans 5:1): the temple of God (1 Corinthians 3:16; 6:19; 2 Corinthians 6:16), God's laws (Jeremiah 31:33; Hebrews 6:10), and the glory of God (2 Corinthians 4:6). Justification, Sanctification, and Glorification are words used in the New Testament to describe the Christian life from the first encounter with God's word-the burning bush and holy ground-to holy people in this life and the coming kingdom of God. Sanctification completes justification, and glorification completes sanctification. Sanctification is living in the dawn of the coming glory-resurrection, eternal life, and the kingdom of God.The New Testament is a commentary on Justification, Sanctification, and Glorification: Justification transforms those who believe on Jesus Christ into holy ground-a dwelling place for God, His word, and His glory. Sanctification transforms those who are justified into holy people- fulfilling the call of God to be disciples, teachers, ministers of reconciliation, ambassadors for Christ, soldiers of Christ, servants, and priests.Glorification transforms those who are holy people into glorified people-living with God in the coming kingdom of God.Each chapter of The Three Word Summary of the Christian Life is an amplification of justification, sanctification, or glorification. And the transition from justification to sanctification is explained through the call of God for the justified to be disciples, teachers, ministers of reconciliation, ambassadors for Christ, soldiers of Christ, servants, and priests. At the beginning of each chapter is a Scripture passage-holy ground. As you read it, you are on holy ground. When you obey it, you are holy. Also included in the chapters are examples of people who have obeyed what God asks you to do in the same passage of Scripture. The examples are testimonies of justification-holy ground, sanctification-holy people, and glorification-faith in the resurrection, eternal life, and the kingdom of God. Hopefully their testimonies will inspire you to do the same, and in turn you will be able to inspire others-make disciples (Matthew 28:18-20).
