"In this study, Jerry Korsmeyer examines how an evolutionary perspective impacts on a traditional understanding of original sin. He reviews the history of the doctrine as well as the church's interaction with the theory of evolution. Using clues provided by evolution and process thought, the author suggests an interpretation of original sin that incorporates both modern Catholic scholarship and scientific evidence. Ultimately, he moves toward a theology of evolution."--BOOK JACKET.Title Summary field provided by Blackwell North America, Inc. All Rights Reserved

Evolution and the Sin in Eden discusses the introduction of sin to man from an evolutionary standpoint, proposing a new theory that proposes that God does not choose to bestow sanctifying grace on everyone indiscriminately by force while interfacing modern theology with modern science. Instead, he waits for people to seek it as the Church does by looking for a likelihood of Christian education before allowing Baptism. This allowance of freedom by God prevents him from bestowing grace on all who enter the world because of the massive sin it leads to. Yet Christ restores the original condition of humans before Adam's sin through grace and baptism as told by St. Irenaeus, who was closer to Apostolic Tradition than the more pessimistic St. Augustine.

What would biology look like if it took the problem of natural evil seriously? This book argues that biological descriptions of evolution are inherently moral, just as the biblical story of creation has biological implications. A complete account of evolution will therefore require theological input. The Dome of Eden does not try to harmonize evolution and creation. Harmonizers typically begin with Darwinism and then try to add just enough religion to make evolution more palatable, or they begin with Genesis and pry open the creation account just wide enough to let in a little bit of evolution. By contrast, Stephen Webb provides a theory of how evolution and theology fit together, and he argues that this kind of theory is required by the internal demands of both theology and biology. The Dome of Eden also develops a theological account of evolution that is distinct from the intelligent design movement. Webb shows how intelligent design properly discerns the inescapable dimension of purpose in nature but, like Darwinism itself, fails to make sense of the problem of natural evil. Finally, this book draws on the work of Karl Barth to advance a new reading of the Genesis narrative and the theology of Duns Scotus to provide the necessary metaphysical foundation for evolutionary thought.

What does it mean for the Christian doctrine of the Fall if there was no historical Adam? If humanity emerged from nonhuman primates--as genetic, biological, and archaeological evidence seems to suggest--then what are the implications for a Christian understanding of human origins, including the origin of sin? Evolution and the Fall gathers a multidisciplinary, ecumenical team of scholars to address these difficult questions and others like them from the perspectives of biology, theology, history, Scripture, philosophy, and politics CONTRIBUTORS: William T. Vanquishing Evil Through the Gospel Evil is all around us. The sin nature of humans is influenced by self-centeredness, arrogance, and the pursuit of selfish desires. Where did original evil begin? How did it manifest and manage to find its way into our innate human nature? While the disobedience of Adam and Eve is the way the Bible gives of sin entering humanity and the world God created, there was an earlier betrayal that changed the entire course of eternity. The Bible tells us, in multiple passages, about Satan's banishment from heaven. In Revelation 12:9, John sees a vision of what occurred: "The great dragon was hurled down-that ancient serpent called the devil, or Satan, who leads the whole world astray. He was hurled to the earth, and his angels with him." Join author Scott Leone as he explores the beginnings and progression of evil-and how God's solution of the gospel is the only way to obtain victory over sin and evil.

Evolution And The Doctrine Of Original Sin written by Stephanus Gerardus Maria Trooster and has been published by this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 1968 with Evolution categories.

All men, Trooster concludes, are involved in sin because they are invovled with humanity. This sin is more than mere imperfection; it is a fundamental refusal to cooperate with the world, a spurning of the natural covenant between man and God. We have a "solidarity-in-sin" with our human progenitors. At the same time, Trooster does not believe that men have "fallen from perfection" (Eden), or that pain and death came into the world as the result of sin. Nor does he believe that sin is passed on biologically through procreation. Yet sin, he says is a reality. All men are born into it because they are born human.

Can Christianity and evolution coexist? Traditional Christian teaching presents Jesus as reversing the effects of the fall of Adam. But an evolutionary view of human origins doesn't allow for a literal Adam, making evolution seemingly incompatible with what Genesis and the apostle Paul say about him. For Christians who both accept evolution and want to take the Bible seriously, this can present a faith-shaking tension. Popular Old Testament scholar Peter Enns offers a way forward by explaining how this tension is caused not by the discoveries of science but by false expectations about the biblical texts. In this 10th anniversary edition, Enns updates readers on developments in the historical Adam debate, helping them reconcile Genesis and Paul with current views on evolution and human origins. This edition includes an afterword that explains Enns's own theological evolution since the first edition released.

The question of the "historical Adam" is a flashpoint for many evangelical readers and churches. Science-and-theology scholar Loren Haarsma--who has studied, written, and spoken on science and faith for decades--shows it is possible both to affirm what science tells us about human evolution and to maintain belief in the doctrine of original sin. Haarsma argues that there are several possible ways of harmonizing evolution and original sin, taking seriously both Scripture and science. He presents a range of approaches without privileging one over the others, examining the strengths and challenges of each.

Adam And Eve Versus Evolution written by Ronald Conte and has been published by this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2014-10-18 with categories.

This book argues in favor of Adam and Eve as two real historical persons, and also in favor of accepting evolution as one of the natural means that God uses to guide the unfolding of His Creation. Adam and Eve were created by God, miraculously, and they became the first parents of the entire human race. But God used evolution, under His providence, to prepare the form of the human body. Then God miraculously created Adam and Eve as the first two true human persons, and He gave them immortal souls with free will and reason. Some Christians reject evolution and other scientific theories, adhering instead to an entirely literal interpretation of the Book of Genesis. Others reject the historicity of Genesis, as if it were merely a collection of fictional teaching stories. When faith and science disagree, how should faithful Christians respond? We cannot reject the truths of our faith. But neither should we reject the gift of reason and the insights of modern science. Therefore, this book proposes that both the story of Adam and Eve, and the theory of evolution are essentially true, when properly understood. The early chapters of Genesis contain some literal historical elements along with many figurative elements. Adam and Eve were two literal historical persons. They each fell from grace by committing the first sins of the human race: original sin. But other elements of their story are figurative, including a forbidden fruit and a talking serpent. And the seven days of Creation are also figurative, not literal. The theory of evolution, in its main tenets, is compatible with this approach to the Bible, which sees both literal and figurative elements woven together in a single tapestry of truth. God created the universe, and He may well have done so in the manner described by science. God chose to create life on Earth, but that life developed and progressed largely as the theory of evolution explains. In addition, God's Providence has always guided Creation as a whole, and particularly life on Earth. He who created all things also created the principles of nature. God gave the principles of nature the role of governing the development of the universe as well as the development of life on Earth. For such is His plan for His Creation. Science has the role of discovering the inherent principles of all natural things. But science must not speak or act as if it were the judge over Faith. The theory of evolution fails on a few points. Evolution ignores the role of God in creating the first life on Earth, in governing the development of living things, and in choosing to create the human race. The idea that one species can evolve into another species is well proven; but the claim that life "evolved" from non-living chemicals is not. I believe that God intervened directly to create the first single-cell organisms on Earth. Subsequently, evolution, under the providence of God, developed that life, over the course of billions of years, into a vast array of plants and animals. But evolution eventually reached a "glass ceiling," after the development of the higher forms of animal life. For no natural principle is able to evolve or create an immortal soul with free will and the ability to reason abstractly. And so God intervened miraculously to create the first two human persons, Adam and Eve. After they fell from grace, these two became the parents of the whole human race. All human persons on Earth are descended from Adam and Eve.
