Parliamentary Candidates Between Voters And Parties written by Lieven De Winter and has been published by Routledge this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2020-10-27 with Political Science categories.

This book offers the first comprehensive, comparative and coherent perspective on parliamentary candidates in contemporary representative democracy. Based on the unique database of the ‘Comparative Candidate Survey' project which interrogated parliamentary candidates in more than 30 countries, it fills a significant lacuna by focusing on the thousands of ordinary candidates that participate in national elections. It examines who the candidates are in terms of their socio-demographic background and political career patterns, how they were selected by their parties, what their policy preference are and whether these are congruent to those held by their voters, who they seek to represent and how they intend to do so once elected, and what their visions are on representative democracy and party government. Last but not least, it investigates how they go about reaching out to their potential voters during the election campaign. This book will be of key interest to scholars and students of political parties and party politics, political elites, political communication, political participation, elections, theories of democracy and representation, legislative studies, voting behaviour and more broadly to European politics, as well as to political and policy professionals throughout Europe.

NUMGE 2018 is the ninth in a series of conferences on Numerical Methods in Geotechnical Engineering organized by the ERTC7 under the auspices of the International Society for Soil Mechanics and Geotechnical Engineering (ISSMGE). The first conference was held in 1986 in Stuttgart, Germany and the series continued every four years (1990 Santander, Spain; 1994 Manchester, United Kingdom; 1998 Udine, Italy; 2002 Paris, France; 2006 Graz, Austria; 2010 Trondheim, Norway; 2014 Delft, The Netherlands). The conference provides a forum for exchange of ideas and discussion on topics related to numerical modelling in geotechnical engineering. Both senior and young researchers, as well as scientists and engineers from Europe and overseas, are invited to attend this conference to share and exchange their knowledge and experiences. This work is the first volume of NUMGE 2018.

Differential Equations written by Robert P. Gilbert and has been published by CRC Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2021-06-28 with Mathematics categories.

This book illustrates how MAPLE can be used to supplement a standard, elementary text in ordinary and partial differential equation. MAPLE is used with several purposes in mind. The authors are firm believers in the teaching of mathematics as an experimental science where the student does numerous calculations and then synthesizes these experiments into a general theory. Projects based on the concept of writing generic programs test a student's understanding of the theoretical material of the course. A student who can solve a general problem certainly can solve a specialized problem. The authors show MAPLE has a built-in program for doing these problems. While it is important for the student to learn MAPLEŚ in built programs, using these alone removes the student from the conceptual nature of differential equations. The goal of the book is to teach the students enough about the computer algebra system MAPLE so that it can be used in an investigative way. The investigative materials which are present in the book are done in desk calculator mode DCM, that is the calculations are in the order command line followed by output line. Frequently, this approach eventually leads to a program or procedure in MAPLE designated by proc and completed by end proc. This book was developed through ten years of instruction in the differential equations course. Table of Contents 1. Introduction to the Maple DEtools 2. First-order Differential Equations 3. Numerical Methods for First Order Equations 4. The Theory of Second Order Differential Equations with Con- 5. Applications of Second Order Linear Equations 6. Two-Point Boundary Value Problems, Catalytic Reactors and 7. Eigenvalue Problems 8. Power Series Methods for Solving Differential Equations 9. Nonlinear Autonomous Systems 10. Integral Transforms Biographies Robert P. Gilbert holds a Ph.D. in mathematics from Carnegie Mellon University. He and Jerry Hile originated the method of generalized hyperanalytic function theory. Dr. Gilbert was professor at Indiana University, Bloomington and later became the Unidel Foundation Chair of Mathematics at the University of Delaware. He has published over 300 articles in professional journals and conference proceedings. He is the Founding Editor of two mathematics journals Complex Variables and Applicable Analysis. He is a three-time Awardee of the Humboldt-Preis, and. received a British Research Council award to do research at Oxford University. He is also the recipient of a Doctor Honoris Causa from the I. Vekua Institute of Applied Mathematics at Tbilisi State University. George C. Hsiao holds a doctorate degree in Mathematics from Carnegie Mellon University. Dr. Hsiao is the Carl J. Rees Professor of Mathematics Emeritus at the University of Delaware from which he retired after 43 years on the faculty of the Department of Mathematical Sciences. Dr. Hsiao was also the recipient of the Francis Alison Faculty Award, the University of Delaware’s most prestigious faculty honor, which was bestowed on him in recognition of his scholarship, professional achievement and dedication. His primary research interests are integral equations and partial differential equations with their applications in mathematical physics and continuum mechanics. He is the author or co-author of more than 200 publications in books and journals. Dr. Hsiao is world-renowned for his expertise in Boundary Element Method and has given invited lectures all over the world. Robert J. Ronkese holds a PhD in applied mathematics from the University of Delaware. He is a professor of mathematics at the US Merchant Marine Academy on Long Island. As an undergraduate, he was an exchange student at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology (ETH) in Zurich. Routledge Handbook Of European Elections written by Donatella M. Viola and has been published by Routledge this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2015-08-14 with Political Science categories.

The Routledge Handbook of European Elections explores the multifaceted dimension of the European Parliament’s (EP) electoral contests across the European Community and European Union since 1979. After setting a general empirical and theoretical framework, this collaborative project presents original contributions from leading experts from virtually all the corners of the European Union. Each case study adheres to a common template that makes it easy to compare data, methodology and outcomes. Every country chapter includes: a brief geopolitical profile and historical background of the Member State; a glance at the national political landscape; a short account of the main political parties, including their attitude toward the European Union; a section on public opinion and European integration; a summary of electoral systems; an overview of all EP and national elections; an in-depth analysis of the 2009 EP electoral race; an overall theoretical interpretation of European elections. A comparative chapter closes the Handbook followed by an Epilogue focussing on the 2014 EP contest with a detailed analysis of the newly elected European Assembly in terms of political group and gender compostion. The volume aims to enhance readers’ understanding of the European Parliament and revive their interest in the European integration process. By providing a wide range of national and European facts and figures, this investigation represents a comprehensive reference guide to scholars, practitioners, and students of the European Parliament, European elections, political parties, European Union and comparative politics.

The disturbed state concept (DSC) is a unified, constitutive modelling approach for engineering materials that allows for elastic, plastic, and creep strains, microcracking and fracturing, stiffening or healing, all within a single, hierarchical framework. Its capabilities go well beyond other available material models yet lead to significant simpl
