SYSTEM SOFTWARE AND SOFTWARE SYSTEMS: Concepts and Methodology is intended to offer a systematic treatment of the theory and practice of designing and implementing system software. The two volumes systematically develop and apply the systems methodology for software development. For that the concept of a system is analysed and various types of systems used in computer science are systematized into a concept of an ad hoc system that is suitable as a mechanism for software development. The kernel of this methodology consists of a systematic approach for ad hoc systems development (specification, implementation, validation). The hardware and the software of a computer system are specified as ad hoc systems. Examples from various architectures, languages, and operating systems are provided as illustrations. Problems and their suggested solutions are provided at the end of each chapter. Further readings and a list of references conclude each chapter. These volumes are self-contained and may be used as textbooks for an introductory course on system software and for a course on operating system. However, a broad spectrum of professionals in computer science will benefit from it.

Strategic planning is the starting point for projects and often the primary reason for a project’s success or failure. Project leaders and project-orientated organisations need to understand strategic planning to understand their position and environment, and make rational decisions when selecting and defining their projects and programmes. The authors provide the reader with a straightforward, comprehensive understanding of the basics of project management, including the present status of the discipline, its history, and theoretical foundations. With emphasis on the project life cycle, it is designed to support the IPMA D, C, or B level qualifications, and IPMA Competence Baseline 4.0, providing you with all the information needed to pursue certification. Project: Execution is also an ideal introductory textbook to progressive programmes on strategic planning, with a focus on collaborative work, open strategy, and an exploration of open strategic planning on a social level. It provides a wealth of learning tools and case studies to demonstrate best practice. This is the ideal guide to project planning for anyone that wants their planning decisions to be as wise as they are savvy.

'Thorough and broad-ranging.' - Dr Bill Curtis, Executive Director, Consortium for Information Execution effectiveness has remained an unconscious focus, not the primary focus, as organizations struggle with mediocre execution due to the interplay between unmindful workplace and workforce ineffectiveness. Effective Execution: Building High-Performing Organizations identifies the core foundations on which both workplace and workforce effectiveness must be fostered to make execution 'mindful of waste'. It focuses on: How can an organization enable alignment of individuals' work to achieve common business objectives when they come from vastly differing family, social, cultural and competency backgrounds? Why are some implementations more effective than others when organizations implement the same set of best practices contained in popular management frameworks for performance improvement? Raghav S. Nandyal draws from his global consulting practice and field experiences to help CEOs and managers develop true learning organizations that build and retain advanced knowledge of their businesses. 'Raghav writes about the importance of problem-solving by maintaining a solid execution focus and getting the job done effectively.' - Commodore Anand Khandekar IN (Retd), Ex-Managing Director, Motorola India Electronics Pvt. Ltd

This open access book provides an overview of the work developed within the SODALITE project, which aims at facilitating the deployment and operation of distributed software on top of heterogeneous infrastructures, including cloud, HPC and edge resources. The experts participating in the project describe how SODALITE works and how it can be exploited by end users. While multiple languages and tools are available in the literature to support DevOps teams in the automation of deployment and operation steps, still these activities require specific know-how and skills that cannot be found in average teams. The SODALITE framework tackles this problem by offering modelling and smart editing features to allow those we call Application Ops Experts to work without knowing low level details about the adopted, potentially heterogeneous, infrastructures. The framework offers also mechanisms to verify the quality of the defined models, generate the corresponding executable infrastructural code, automatically wrap application components within proper execution containers, orchestrate all activities concerned with deployment and operation of all system components, and support on-the-fly self-adaptation and refactoring.
