A son recounts the epic story of his late mother’s life in this mythic novel of love, family, hatred, and revenge. When Salina dies, it falls to her youngest son to tell her story, a story of violence and suffering, vengeance and passion. Exiled three times, the first time as a newborn abandoned outside a village by a mysterious horseman, Salina was taken in and raised by a clan that only ever saw her as a stranger and an enemy to be defeated. Three times a mother, her children born from strife, Salina never knew love, and revenge became her reason to live. To gain admittance to the cemetery, to a place of peace at last, Salina’s son must face up and tell the tale of Salina’s ordeals—her rape the most harrowing—in minute detail. He has no choice but to give voice to all that for years fed into Salina’s rage. With this short novel set in an ancestral world, Laurent Gaudé explores a narrative space where time flows to rhythmic rituals, where fate blurs to legend, and secrets become myth. Praise for Salina: The Three Exiles “It’s a simply superb text, a perfect accomplishment uniting two of Laurent Gaudé’s talents, playwriting and novel writing.” —Livres Hebdo “With this sun scorched ode of a novel, [Laurent Gaudé] confirms that he is one of our greatest storytellers.” —Philippe Chevilley, Les Echos “A brief and powerful tale. A striking reflection on exile and vengeance.” —François Busnel, France5 “Tenaciously beautiful, this brief epic has the astonishing power of a myth.” —Claire Julliard, L’Obs “Beautiful, powerful, and moving. Between African tale and ancient tragedy, tinged with universal and very modern accents, Laurent Gaudé has written a brief novel that is insanely powerful.” —Bernard Lehut, RTL

Time In Exile written by Marcia Sá Cavalcante Schuback and has been published by State University of New York Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2020-02-10 with Philosophy categories.

This book is a philosophical reflection on the experience of time from within exile. Its focus on temporality is unique, as most literature on exile focuses on the experience of space, as exile involves dislocation, and moods of nostalgia and utopia. Marcia Sá Cavalcante Schuback proposes that in exile, time is experienced neither as longing back to the lost past nor as wanting a future to come but rather as a present without anchors or supports. She articulates this present as a "gerundive" mode, in which the one who is in exile discovers herself simply being, exposed to the uncanny experience of having lost the past and not having a future. To explore this, she establishes a conversation among three authors whose work has exemplified this sense of gerundive time: the German philosopher Martin Heidegger, the French writer and essayist Maurice Blanchot, and the Brazilian writer Clarice Lispector. The book does not aim to discuss how these authors understand the relation between time and exile, but presents a conversation with them in relation to this question that reflects new aspects in their work. Attempting to think and express this difficult sense of time from within exile, Time in Exile engages with the relation between thought and language, and between philosophy and literature. Departing from concrete existential questions, Sá Cavalcante Schuback reveals new philosophical and theoretical modes to understand what it means to be present in times of exile.

Reading The Bible Across Contexts written by Esa J. Autero and has been published by BRILL this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2016-06-10 with Religion categories.

In Reading the Bible Across Contexts Esa Autero offers a fresh perspective on Luke’s poverty texts. In addition to an historical reading, he conducted an empirical investigation of two Latin American Bible reading groups – one poor and the other affluent – to shed light on Luke’s poverty texts. The interaction between historical reading and present-day readings demonstrates the impact of socio-economic status on biblical hermeneutics and sheds new light on Luke’s views on wealth and poverty. At the same time Esa Autero critically examines liberation theologian’s claim that poor are privileged biblical interpreters.
