Der vorliegende Band vereinigt 28 deutschsprachige Beitrage von Mitgliedern der internationalen Projektgruppe aAntike Sklavereio an der Mainzer Akademie. Er erinnert an die Begruendung des Projekts durch den Tuebinger Althistoriker Joseph Vogt vor 50 Jahren. Sie betreffen u.a. das Spannungsfeld Sklaverei und Humanitat, das Freilassungswesen, Fragen des Buergerrechts und der Terminologie sowie die Auseinandersetzung des Christentums mit der Sklaverei. Beitrage zu antiken und modernen Auffassungen der Sklaverei runden den Band ebenso ab wie Untersuchungen zur Sklaverei in Randgebieten der antiken Welt. Die Vielschichtigkeit der Abhandlungen zeigt, wie aktuell noch heute - nach einem halben Jahrhundert intensiver Forschung - die Beschaftigung mit dem Phanomen der antiken Sklaverei ist.
