Nothing affects the modern economy (and society) more than decisions made in the market place, especially, but not only, decisions made by consumers. Although it is not startling to suggest that decisions made in production are affected by choices consumers make, consumers have long been viewed, not only by academic economists, as individual, isolated rational actors that make or refrain from purchases purely on the basis of narrow financial considerations. Markets are not and never were morally neutral. Market relations have always had an often taken-for-granted moral underpinning. The moralization of the markets refers to the dissolution and replacement of the conventional moral underpinnings of market conduct, for example, in the music market, financial markets, and corporate governance. It further implies not only the heightened importance of new ethical precepts, but the significant change in the role of moral ideals in market behavior. These profound transformations of economic conduct are accompanied and co-determined by societal conflicts. The moralization of markets represents thus a new stage in the social evolution of markets. The book is divided into four parts, in which the twelve chapters, written by contributors from different social science disciplines, deal with the context of the moralization of the markets; the major social institutions; and present case studies that examine European and American attitudes and behavior towards tobacco and GMO; expansion of the private and ethics in business; and how workers respond to the new corporate norms. This volume will be of interest to sociologists, economists, social scientists, and the general consumer alike.

This book comprehensively explores all of the underlying issues and elements which, together, constitute one of the most successful quality and management programmes upon which companies such as Motorola and GE base their success - Six Sigma. The author was directly involved in implementing Six Sigma quality principles and practices into a European division of GE Capital, deploying this initiative in an entirely service-oriented business for the first time. Drawing from and reflecting on his experience, Geoff Tennant develops a reasoned exploration of the benefits that Six Sigma offers to any organization and what can be expected from start to finish. He investigates the relationship between Six Sigma and quality, customer satisfaction, business processes and organizational structure, statistics and analysis and process improvement methodologies. Aimed at quality professionals, senior management and directors, as well as practitioners and students of Six Sigma, Six Sigma: SPC and TQM in Manufacturing and Services provides an in-depth but highly readable insight into the quality initiative that is certain to sweep European companies as it has large and global American corporations.

It is evident that many organisations are in need of renovation, innovation and reinvigoration. Longstanding business paradigms and underpinning practices require critical reflection in the light of fundamental societal and business developments. Some companies are addressing these challenges, many companies are not. New functional requirements often seem to be in conflict, such as transparency, stock market performance, sustainability, innovation, responsibility, time to market, stakeholders, business rationalisation and many others. These requirements force business to revise its management model. The time is right to demonstrate how the business enterprise can be re-conceptualised, and what the challenges are of fundamental strategic choices in organising a sustainable business proposition. This book presents ten cases of organisations which have developed a management model that leads the organisation into the future.

Non Visitor Research written by Martin Tröndle and has been published by Springer Nature this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2022-09-23 with Business & Economics categories.

Although many studies are available on visitors to cultural institutions, the infrequent or non-visitors are largely unexplored. However, they make up the majority of the population. Their motivation for not visiting is therefore the focus of this volume. This volume provides an in-depth overview of the international state of nonvisitor research. Building on this, extensive quantitative and qualitative analyses are conducted on reasons for non-visitation. This is followed by an empirically based, practice-oriented theory of visitor attraction. The authors thus present the first comprehensive work on non-visitor research in Germany. This book is a translation of the original German 1st edition Nicht-Besucherforschung by Martin Tröndle, published by Springer Fachmedien Wiesbaden GmbH, part of Springer Nature in 2019. The translation was done with the help of artificial intelligence (machine translation by the service DeepL.com). A subsequent human revision was done primarily in terms of content, so that the book will read stylistically differently from a conventional translation. Springer Nature works continuously to further the development of tools for the production of books and on the related technologies to support the authors.

Web 2 0 written by Miltiadis D. Lytras and has been published by Springer Science & Business Media this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2008-10-20 with Business & Economics categories.

While the web itself is about twenty years old, businesses are still impleme- ing the technology into the fabric of the business model. The background section will focus on defining the building blocks for the framework including defining the basic components of Web 1. 0 which focused on the presence and business transaction. The Web 2. 0 section will focus on defining the basic building blocks of customer interactions, while the final section will focus on a review the wine industry. 2. 1 Web 1. 0: Presence and Electronic Commerce The term Web 1. 0 emerged from the research around the development of Web 2. 0. Prior to this, researchers commonly referred to Web 1. 0 as Electronic C- merce or E-Business. Where as, web 1. 0 focused on a read only web interface, Web 2. 0 focuses on a read-write interface where value emerges from the contri- tion of a large volume of users. The Internet initially focused on the command and control of the information itself. Information was controlled by a relative small number of resources but distributed to a large number which spawned the massive growth of the web itself. Like television before it, the web allowed for the broadcasting of information to a large number of users. Initial web sites were built simply to communicate presence or provide information on the business - self. This component includes information like marketing materials, investor re- tions, employment opportunities, and product information.
