The delivery of essential goods to beneficiaries in the aftermath of a disaster is one of the main objectives of relief logistics. Thereby, the present work aims to improve relief logistics by improving the location selection of warehouses, distribution centers, and points of distribution. Consequently, it offers the potential to significantly improve the distribution of goods in the aftermath of future disasters and, thereby, increase disaster resilience.

In this work a process simulation model identifies the most profitable German biogas plant types and sizes. Small manure and large-scale biowaste plants are currently the most economically attractive installations whereas the valorization of energy crops turns out to be unprofitable. Future developments are assessed with the help of a regional optimization model under constraints. Capacity expansion concerns small-scale manure and biowaste installations rather than plants based on energy crops.

In recent years, disaster events spreading across national borders have increased, which requires improved collaboration between countries. By means of an agent-based simulation and an empirical study, this thesis provides valuable insights for decision-makers in order to overcome barriers in cross-border cooperation and thus, enhance borderland resilience for future events. Das NaMaRes-Projekt entwickelte Werkzeuge und Handlungsempfehlungen zur Unterstützung einer nachhaltigen und ressourceneffizienten Stadtplanung auf Quartiersebene. Die betrachteten Ressourcen umfassen Wasser, Stoffe, Fläche und Ökosystemleistungen. Die Projektergebnisse verbessern die Informationslage über Ressourcen in Bestandsquartieren und bieten eine Grundlage für Akteure in politischen Diskussionen und städtischer Umsetzungsplanung. Das Projekt trägt zur Umsetzung der SDGs in Städten bei. - The NaMaRes project developed tools and recommendations to support sustainable and resource-efficient urban planning at the neighborhood level. The considered resources include water, materials, land, and ecosystem services. The project's results enhance the information available on resources in existing neighborhoods and provide a foundation for stakeholders in political discussions and urban implementation planning. The project contributes to the implementation of the SDGs in cities.

Eine Anwendung erfolgt in Fallstudien zur Automobil- und Zulieferindustrie. - Companies are currently in a transformation towards a more sustainable, especially climate-neutral business. The identification of drivers as well as the techno-economic and ecological evaluation of possible measures are essential in this process. In this work, a decision support system was developed to configure industrial value chains in a more climate-friendly and at the same time economical way. The decision support system is applied in case studies of the automotive and supplier industry.
