Excerpt from Failure-Induced Change and Threat-Rigidity Under Economic Adversity: The Case of Insider Vs. Outsider Ceo Succession; Working Paper No. 3597-93 Organizational scripts result both from past experience of the organization and from the experience of other organizations in its sector or field. Prior adoption of a program in an organization increases its availability in organizational memory, and this knowledge becomes encoded in the form of organizational scripts that link sequences of action to environmental stimuli. With the organizational adoption of a program of action, it becomes embedded in the memory of the organization and its members. In the event of a subsequent opportunity for organizational decision-making, the probability that the this type of solution will be invoked by organizational participants is likely to increase. Organizational restructuring, strategic reorientations and top management turnover are all examples of programs of action that when successfully adopted become more salient in organizational memory and increase the likelihood of subsequent adoption. The Contingency Theory Of Organizations written by Lex Donaldson and has been published by SAGE Publications this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2001-02-20 with Business & Economics categories.

Written by one of the foremost scholars in the field, this volume presents a comprehensive, in-depth analysis of the theories, evidence and methodological issues of contingency theory - one of the major theoretical lenses used to view organizations. It includes both an appreciation of the coherency of contingency theory overall and a frank recognition of some of the deficiencies in contingency theory research. The coherent underlying model provides the platform from which to make good some of the deficiencies through a series of improvements in theory and method that chart the course for future research. The opening chapter presents a theoretical integration to provide the reader with an overview that makes sense of what is a large literature. It also argues that there is an underlying core paradigm that renders contingency theory coherent. The next chapters lay out the foundations of contingency theory by reviewing the pioneering contributors to theory and empirical research. This is followed by an examination of the causal models in the received bureaucracy research literature and an attempt to put them on a more truly contingency theory base. Chapters 7 and 8 examine in detail the concept of fit and its relationship with performance, including the empirical research studies. Chapter 9 presents possible new developments for contingency theory, to make it more coherent and, hopefully, valid. These new developments include the concepts of disequilibrium, quasi-fit and hetero-performance. All three are novel concepts that substantially revise and improve contingency theory. The final chapter offers suggestions on how to operationalize the ideas in this book in terms of hypotheses for future empirical research.

Bounded Rationality In Economics And Finance written by Christian Richter and has been published by LIT Verlag Münster this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2008 with Capital market categories.

The dominant hypothesis in mainstream economics is the assumption of prefect rationality. However, there are two dilemmas: Whenever this assumption was used empirical evidence turned out to be against it. Secondly, this assumption is far from reality, for example, because individuals usually do not possess all relevant information. Therefore, this volume addresses issues of bounded rationality in different areas. The first part investigates bounded rationality in financial markets, the second part investigates the effects of bounded rationality on industrial organizations and the third part deals with bounded rationality in price theory, environmental economics and public management.

Variations In Organization Science written by Donald Thomas Campbell and has been published by SAGE this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 1999-05-14 with Business & Economics categories.

If he were an assistant professor today, what work would social science giant Donald T. Campbell be doing in the field of organization science? Joel A. C. Baum and Bill McKelvey explore this question in Variations in Organization Science. This volume reveals and celebrates Campbell's many contributions to the field by presenting new variations that stem directly from his work. Rather than analyzing Campbell's work, chapter authors pursue additional implications and further applications of his perspective to organization science - some of which Campbell himself might have pursued if he were starting out as an assistant professor in 1999.

The Oxford Handbook Of Corporate Reputation written by Michael L. Barnett and has been published by OUP Oxford this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2012-07-19 with Business & Economics categories.

What does it mean to have a "good" or "bad" reputation? How does it create or destroy value, or shape chances to pursue particular opportunities? Where do reputations come from? How do we measure them? How do we build and manage them? Over the last twenty years the answers to these questions have become increasingly important-and increasingly problematic-for scholars and practitioners seeking to understand the creation, management, and role of reputation in corporate life. This Handbook intends to bring definitional clarity to these issues, giving an account of extant research and theory and offering guidance about where scholarship on corporate reputation might most profitably head. Eminent scholars from a variety of disciplines, such as management, sociology, economics, finance, history, marketing, and psychology, have contributed chapters to provide state of the art definitions of corporate reputation; differentiate reputation from other constructs and intangible assets; offer guidance on measuring reputation; consider the role of reputation as a corporate asset and how a variety of factors, including stage of life, nation of origin, and the stakeholders considered affect its ability to create value; and explore corporate reputation's role more broadly as a regulatory mechanism. Finally, they also discuss how to manage and grow reputations, as well as repair them when they are damaged. In discussing these issues this Handbook aims to move the field of corporate reputation research forward by demonstrating where the field is now, addressing some of the perpetual problems of definition and differentiation, and suggesting future research directions.
