Il libro, introdotto dalla prefazione di Giancarlo Tartaglia, segretario generale della Fondazione per il Giornalismo “Paolo Murialdi” (ex direttore della Fnsi), vuole offrire un contributo di analisi e di riflessione a proposito dello straordinario potere che fake news e disinformazione esercitano in vario modo, specialmente in questi mesi di coronavirus. Il contagio della disinformazione, spesso per fini di manipolazione, è un rischio molto forte, soprattutto considerando la necessità per i cittadini di avere un’informazione corretta, tempestiva e affidabile, al tempo del coronavirus. È profondamente cambiato, del resto, lo scenario dove gli operatori dell’informazione si devono muovere: viviamo in un mondo circolare dove c’è qualcuno che produce la notizia, qualcun altro che la riceve e un altro ancora che la diffonde sui propri canali personali. In questo meccanismo i giornalisti sono un ingranaggio, parte di una catena che deve svolgere il proprio ruolo sempre con grande responsabilità. Occorre, però difendersi dal rischio sempre più in agguato di informazioni senza controllo e offrire ai lettori, ai telespettatori, ai naviganti della rete strumenti in grado di offrire una protezione dall’altra pandemia, quella della disinformazione globale. I giornalisti sono quindi chiamati a fare la loro parte e oggi più che mai la reputazione è il miglior elemento distintivo per l’informazione di qualità.
