An emotional love story with splashes of humour - perfect for fans of Nicholas Sparks, John Green, and David Nicholls. Can love exist between two foreigners?Flamenco dancer Mercedes craves to find a romantic man who will treat her right. She's sick of Sevillano men putting their mothers before her. She has always had a fascination with British guys, but she never expects one to show up while she is performing in a tablao, and turn her life upside down.Genius guitarist Charlie isn't planning on falling in love with a flamenco dancer. In fact, he wants to steer clear of women, so he can focus on his dream of becoming a flamenco guitarist in Seville, Spain. At first he thinks he may be in for a holiday romance, but his connection with Mercedes means so much more. But love always comes along when you least expect it.On arriving in Seville from London, Charlie meets Ramn, a flamenco teacher, who notices his extraordinary gift. Charlie's chances of surviving in a traditional Spanish flamenco world are almost impossible, but Ramn takes him under his wing.As Charlie is engulfed in his first flamenco show, he spots Mercedes, and is immediately drawn in by her exotic Spanish beauty. As soon as their eyes meet, their hearts and souls connect, and their love story begins. But true love is never easy to conquer, especially for two lovers from completely different backgrounds and countries, who speak different languages, and a strict, traditional, Catholic Spanish father who is determined to ruin any chances they have of becoming one. Will Charlie rise to the challenge of becoming a flamenco guitarist and win the heart of Mercedes? Will Mercedes go against her father's wishes and risk breaking up her family? Why don't' you...run away with the gypsies? Ten-hour shifts in a high-end department store and catering to snooty customers...Nellie Bennett's life wasn't supposed to turn out this way. But maybe all she needs to do is infuse a little passion into her routine—through flamenco dance lessons, for instance. What Nellie doesn't realize is that flamenco is not just a dance—it's a way of life that seems much more enticing than her depressing retail gig. So she packs her suede dance shoes and leaves everything she knows behind, flying halfway around the world to seek the authentic experience in Seville, where the dark-eyed gypsy boys and mouth-watering tapas are enough to make Nellie want to stay in Spain forever. And why shouldn't she? Only in Spain is a foot-stomping, full-on firecracker of a memoir—crackling with energy, food, dance, gypsies, and love—that will capture your heart with the first "Olé!" "A vivid, entertaining memoir...Bennett had me itching to pack my bag and join her."—Ann Vanderhoof, author of An Embarrassment of Mangoes and The Spice Necklace

Duende written by Jason Webster and has been published by Random House this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2010-08-03 with Travel categories.

Having pursued a conventional enough path through school and university, Jason Webster was all set to enter the world of academe as a profession. But when his aloof Florentine girlfriend of some years dumped him unceremoniously, he found himself at a crossroads. Abandoning the world of libraries and the future he had always imagined for himself, he headed off instead for Spain in search of duende, the intense emotional state - part ecstasy, part desperation - so intrinsic to flamenco. Duende is an account of his years spent in Spain feeding his obsessive interest in flamenco: he subjects himself to the tyranny of his guitar teacher, practising for hours on end until his fingers bleed; he becomes involved in a passionate affair with Lola, a flamenco dancer (and older woman) married to the gun-toting Vicente, only to flee Alicante in fear of his life; in Madrid, he falls in with Gypsies and meets the imperious Jesús. Joining their dislocated, cocaine-fuelled world, stealing cars by night and sleeping away the days in tawdry rooms, he finds himself spiralling self-destructively downwards. It is only when he arrives in Granada bruised and battered, after two years total immersion in the flamenco lifestyle that he is able to put his obsession into context. In the tradition of Laurie Lee's classic As I Walked Out One Midsummer Morning, Duende charts a young man's emotional coming of age and offers real insight into the passionate essence of flamenco.

Flamenco written by Tony Bryant and has been published by CreateSpace this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2015-02-13 with categories.

This excitingly fresh flamenco book tells the story of how an Englishman first became interested in, and eventually addicted to, a culture that is so different to that of his own; an art normally only associated with the gypsies of Andalucia. The author starts his story with his own musical up-bringing in London and discusses the similarities that exist within the evolution of flamenco and other world music like jazz and the blues. He also takes the reader on a journey through some of the small villages and towns in Andalucia; where he met some of the most influential flamenco artistes of Spain. The book includes some amusing tales and anecdotes of things that happened to him whilst he was researching the book; like the old man he met in Seville who wanted to talk about an approaching game of football between Chelsea FC and Real Betis. The old guy was dumbfounded that this Englishman had no knowledge of football, yet knew more about flamenco than the average Spaniard. The book also describes in great detail some of the flamenco parties that the author attended, and he explains how different these impromptu juergas are compared to the commercial flamenco that is staged for the tourists. The main purpose of the book is to explain the two immensely different sides of flamenco; the glitter and sparkle theatre flamenco, and the cante jondo, the deep songs that have existed in Andalucia for approximately 500 years. The book includes an in depth chapter concerning the history of flamenco, and as well biographies of flamenco artistes who are considered to have played a major role in the evolution and preservation of this culture. Flamenco; an Englishman's passion explains many of the myths and legends that surround this predominately gypsy art, so this book will not only appeal to lovers of flamenco: the book also reveals Andalucia's fiestas and celebrations, like Easter week, the festivals, the ferias and the romerias. The author realized that there was much more to flamenco than just music and dance, and he deals with all aspects of life in Andalucia, especially the people, as he believes that they are what make flamenco so unique. The author cut himself off from the outside world to immerse himself in the world of flamenco, mixing with gypsies and andalusians alike, in order to get a true understanding. Tony Bryant claims flamenco became "like a cuckoo," pushing to one side everything else that was once important, to become a major part of his everyday life. He is a lover of the purest, duende fuelled, gypsy flamenco and he holds no punches when explaining why he feels that the orthodox side of this art is being destroyed by the commercial scene that is desecrating this age old culture.
