From the acclaimed designer and bestselling author of Reimagining Design, a nonlinear approach to navigating design’s nuances in pursuit of meaningful innovation. In Nonlinear, Kevin Bethune shows us that we can reject trodden paths of digital or physical product creation by taking advantage of a nonlinear approach. To unlock meaningful innovation that breeds new and novel outcomes, he writes, teams need to embark on a journey into the proverbial forest of ambiguity, the result of a rapidly converging, dynamic, and exponentially changing landscape. The journey is less about getting it right or wrong, and more about using the information we have at our disposal to understand our choices and unlock new learning. Nonlinear begins by taking the reader through Bethune’s professional zigs and zags. The author explains that while his interdisciplinary leaps were rare at the time he took them, these varied experiences unlocked perspectives about design and innovation that uniquely prepared him for our present moment and for the future. He then showcases the role of quantitative information to strategically frame and set boundary conditions for our creative exploration, and he highlights the role of qualitative insights to provide the substance necessary to begin crafting solutions that address unmet needs. The book also identifies accelerants (or flywheels) that will help readers as they reflect on their journey through the forest of ambiguity, with a specific emphasis on diversity, a key theme for Bethune, a Black man who has navigated new horizons. Readers will enjoy having the chance to customize the author’s perspectives and make them their own at both an individual and a team level.

Polygyny And Sexual Selection In Red Winged Blackbirds written by William A. Searcy and has been published by Princeton University Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2014-07-14 with Science categories.

The purpose of this book is to explain why red-winged blackbirds are polygynous and to describe the effects of this mating system on other aspects of the biology of the species. Polygyny is a mating system in which individual males form long-term mating relationships with more than one female at a time. The authors show that females choose to mate polygynously because there is little cost to sharing male parental care in this species, and because females gain protection against nest predation by nesting near other females. Polygyny has the effect of intensifying sexual selection on males by increasing the variance in mating success among males. For females, polygyny means that they will often share a male's territory with other females during the breeding season and will thus be forced to adapt to frequent female-female interactions. This work reviews the results of many studies by other researchers, as well as presenting the authors' own results. Studies of red-winged blackbirds have ranged from long-term investigations of reproductive success and demography, to research on genetic parentage based on modern molecular methods, to a variety of experimental manipulations of ecological circumstances and behavior. Since the red-winged blackbird is one of the best studied species of any taxa in terms of its behavior and ecology, the authors have a particularly extensive body of results on which to base their conclusions. The Authentic Leader written by Royce Sparks and has been published by CRC Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2020-08-06 with Business & Economics categories.

Using clear and simple exercises adapted for leadership development from the world-renowned Meisner Technique, The Authentic Leader will help you discover first-hand what it means to build your authentic leadership skills in a clear, technical way. This book presents a version of the Meisner technique that has been thoughtfully modified for the purposes of leadership training. It aims to train leaders to be fully authentic in their responses in the most efficient way and to let their responses be filtered by their abilities to deeply interpret and thrive within the psychological realities of the circumstances they are entering, be it their own or other people’s. The exercises in this book teach that effective leadership skills are about getting the attention off of oneself and allowing for a type of interpersonal determinism to bring out a leader’s truthful responses. This text breaks open the conversation on leadership and business skills in a whole new way using an established, although largely unknown method in the business world that will help leaders engage in the values of great leadership and train their own abilities to have presence, be dynamic, be magnetic, and know how to read any situation and thrive within it. Whether you are green in your career or at the head of a nation, an aspiring leader or an educator looking to use this material, this work develops and nourishes powerful leadership in unconventional, effective, and dynamic ways.

Calhoun S Philosophy Of Politics written by Guy Story Brown and has been published by Mercer University Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2000 with Philosophy categories.

John C. Calhoun's A Disquisition on Government has been hailed since its publication in 1851 as a classic in political science and has been called the greatest work of American political theory. Guy Story Brown's Calhoun's Philosophy of Politics is the first comprehensive explication de texte of Calhoun's great work on political theory. This traditional textual analysis places Calhoun's theory within the broader context of the political philosophy he himself studied, from Aristotle to Bacon and the moderns on up to Rousseau and the Federalists. It also pays close attention to Calhoun's literary models, such as Livy. The result is the definitive interpretation of Calhoun's political philosophy and theory. This book makes Calhoun's philosophy accessible to contemporary thinkers and shows what Calhoun thought about issues such as world government. Topics discussed in Calhoun's Philosophy of Politics include nature and political science, empire and world government, political science and government, and political science and human progress.

“A brilliant travel guide to the coming world of AI.” —Jeanette Winterson What does it mean to be creative? Can creativity be trained? Is it uniquely human, or could AI be considered creative? Mathematical genius and exuberant polymath Marcus du Sautoy plunges us into the world of artificial intelligence and algorithmic learning in this essential guide to the future of creativity. He considers the role of pattern and imitation in the creative process and sets out to investigate the programs and programmers—from Deep Mind and the Flow Machine to Botnik and WHIM—who are seeking to rival or surpass human innovation in gaming, music, art, and language. A thrilling tour of the landscape of invention, The Creativity Code explores the new face of creativity and the mysteries of the human code. “As machines outsmart us in ever more domains, we can at least comfort ourselves that one area will remain sacrosanct and uncomputable: human creativity. Or can we?...In his fascinating exploration of the nature of creativity, Marcus du Sautoy questions many of those assumptions.” —Financial Times “Fascinating...If all the experiences, hopes, dreams, visions, lusts, loves, and hatreds that shape the human imagination amount to nothing more than a ‘code,’ then sooner or later a machine will crack it. Indeed, du Sautoy assembles an eclectic array of evidence to show how that’s happening even now.” —The Times

In 'One Child Reading', Margaret Mackey makes a singular contribution to our understanding of reading and literacy development. Seeking a deeper sense of what happens when we read, she revisited the texts she read, viewed, listened to, and wrote as she became literate in the 1950s and 1960s in St. John's, Newfoundland. This tremendous sweep of reading included school texts, knitting patterns, musical scores, and games, as well as hundreds of books. The result is not a memoir, but rather a deftly theorised exploration of how a reader is constructed.

Brexit Demise Of Great Britain written by Ernie Hasler and has been published by AuthorHouse this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2018-11-14 with Fiction categories.

The book is set in the modern background of United Kingdom locations and time frames, including prominent figures in the political and criminal world, where the distinction at Westminster between public service and personal gain is very grey. Anglo-Saxon governments are probably the most successful war machine and criminal enterprise in modern human history, and they are selfish in the extreme. This is evidenced by the fact that in the year 2016, 1 per cent of the world’s population owns 99 per cent of its wealth, and although in resource-rich parts of the world the rich may be ethnic, many of the rich 1 per cent are of Anglo-Saxon descent. Yet the working classes remain decent, family-orientated subjects loyal to this ruthless hierarchal class system. This exciting, fascinating political thriller is fictitious, and persons in this work are merely background features; the author uses gypsies as a metaphor for all displaced peoples. It explores many fascinating truths and facts suppressed and falsified by church and state. Any resemblances to literal events or actions by people, living or dead, are entirely fictitious, but the story certainly has a ring of truth to those who can perceive double dealing through the fog of clever national and international propaganda.
