Quest’opera celebra il quarto di secolo dalla fondazione dell’Associazione Italiana delle Azienda Familiari (AIDAF). Non ha uno sguardo retrospettivo né è un racconto del passato. È un saggio sul futuro che prende forma di dialogo fra aziende familiari e accademia italiana per esplorare il mondo del family business, combinando rigore con pragmatismo. Spunti concreti di riflessione per costruire prima e preservare poi continuità e sostenibilità del sistema famiglia-azienda. Il dialogo si compone di venticinque lettere e relative risposte, raggruppate in cinque sezioni: famiglia, proprietà, giovani, impresa e sostenibilità. Da una parte, gli imprenditori associati a AIDAF formulano un quesito sul family business nella forma di lettera all’accademico che, in risposta, elabora un breve saggio. Si affrontano questioni ricorrenti o classiche, come il passaggio generazionale, che temi del dibattito più contemporaneo, come la sostenibilità e la gestione di grandi famiglie imprenditoriali. Il saggio non è rivolto solo agli associati AIDAF. È stato curato per intavolare una conversazione con coloro che sono soci di aziende familiari; con le nuove generazioni; con gli imprenditori; con i manager e i professionisti che collaborano con le aziende familiari; con gli studenti; con i cultori della materia o, più semplicemente, con coloro che esprimono curiosità sul mondo del family business. Come in ogni dialogo, anche in questo la speranza è di stimolare un interesse a proseguire nello scambio di vedute, esperienze e conoscenze oltre le pagine dell’opera, ricordando che la vivacità e eccellenza del tessuto delle aziende familiari è fondamentale per sviluppo di un Sistema Paese.

Nella misura in cui sapremo rileggere il contributo economico-sociale dell’impresa alla luce della prospettiva fiduciaria che caratterizza tutte le relazioni umane, potremo aggregare tutte le intelligenze intercettabili nel perimetro degli stakeholders, aprendoci a modelli partecipativi che ci aiutino a progettare la trasmissione dell’impresa e del suo valore nel tempo, portando nel mirino delle opzioni – troppo spesso limitate al solo passaggio generazionale «di padre in figlio» – anche le numerose varianti che l’apertura di management, governance e capitale hanno da offrirci. In contesti dove il cambiamento è la regola e dove costantemente a rischio è la continuità del sistema (organizzazione, impresa, società), l’unica possibile risposta è quella di scrivere una nuova narrazione, intergenerazionale, insieme.
