Families have been significantly affected by coronavirus disease (COVID-19), and those raising a child with a Neurodevelopmental Disorder (NDD) may be particularly vulnerable to negative consequences from the health catastrophe. Family resilience is a contributing factor to a family's strength in time of hardship and refers to the family’s “ability, as a functional system, to withstand and rebound from adversity” (Walsh, 2003, page 1). Additionally, a family’s connectedness (e.g., closeness, support, warmth, responsiveness; Manzi & Brambilla, 2014) can help bolster family resilience (Garner & Yogman, 2021). This study sought to first identify how the pandemic has affected families of children with an NDD compared to their neurotypical peers. Second, we wanted to understand whether differences in family resilience and ratings of connectedness existed between the two groups. Third, we analyzed whether family resilience and connectedness were associated with pandemic impact. Finally, we wanted to test whether the relationship between family resilience, connectedness, and pandemic impact was moderated (e.g., strengthened, diminished, or negated) by whether the family had a child with an NDD diagnosis. Caregivers completed questionnaires of family demographics, pandemic impact, and family resilience. Regarding differences in how the pandemic impacted families, our findings did not suggest that a significant difference existed in how the pandemic impacted (cumulative, indirect, and direct) either group. Next, we analyzed if there was a difference in ratings of overall family resilience between groups, but there was no significant difference in scores. Similarly, there was no significant relationship between family resilience and cumulative pandemic impact. However, there was a moderate, negative correlation between family resilience and indirect pandemic impact, and similar results were found regarding connectedness. Finally, group membership did not moderate the relationship between family resilience and pandemic impact. Implications for how mental health providers can foster and reinforce resilience of all families will be discussed.

Beberapa dekade lalu, orang mendambakan kondisi serba telekomunikasi digital. Film-film bercorak fiksi ilmiah era tahun 80-an sering menampilkan sesuatu yang tampak mustahil saat itu: adegan orang bercakap-cakap di depan layar monitor dengan orang lain yang dipisah oleh jarak. Adegan itu tampak mustahil karena orang hanya tahu percakapan sebatas lewat telepon atau komunikasi tertulis lewat surat yang diterima beberapa hari setelah dikirim dan semua orang mendambakan masa datangnya situasi ketika bercakap-cakap sambil menatap wajah orang yang terpisah ribuan kilo atau terkirimnya naskah panjang tanpa jeda waktu merupakan hal yang lazim. Tapi, apakah saat itu orang mengetahui tentang sleep call: Smartphone tetap terhubung sampai berjam-jam walau kekasih di kota lain sudah terlelap? Atau, apakah ada kesadaran tentang kemungkinan gejala FOMO - fear of missing-out- yang setali tiga uang dengan smartphone addiction? Lalu, bisakah kita kembali ke jaman telegram indah atau berkirim surat lewat bus surat supaya tidak ada lagi FOMO? Di saat dunia dan realitas interaksi manusia memiliki kelaziman baru, dengan berbagai kemungkinan munculnya gejala perilaku yang baru belum terpetakan dengan jelas, berikut juga peta tentang "tebing" dan "jurangnya", maka di sinilah pentingnya pengetahuan dan perbincangan ilmiah tentang perilaku manusia yang menggejala di jaman baru ini. Dan manakala jarum Sejarah tidak mungkin lagi diputar balik dan yang tertinggal dari manusia adalah kesadarannya, maka pentinglah kita membicarakan kesadaran manusia di era digital.

Program Bantuan Sosial Sembako saat pemberlakukan Pembatasan Sosial Berskala Besar (PSBB) dalam menghadapi COVID-19, merupakan salah satu program yang dilakukan Kementerian Sosial RI untuk meringankan beban masyarakat terdampak di wilayah Jabodetabek. Untuk mengetahui bagaimana implementasi ketepatan sasaran pemberian bantuan tersebut dan nilai kemanfaatannya, maka dilakukanlah penelitian ini. Penelitian ini dilakukan dengan mewawancarai penerima manfaat program Bantuan Sosial Sembako yang diberikan setiap dua minggu sekali dalam waktu tiga bulan, terhitung dari bulan Mei, Juni, dan Juli tahun 2020 atau saat tahap dua penyaluran bantuan. Untuk memperdalam temuan, penelitian ini juga mewawancarai ketua RT/RW yang bertanggungjawab pada titik bagi bantuan. Hasil penelitian menunjukan bahwa bantuan yang diberikan sudah cukup tepat kepada keluarga terdampak COVID-19, dilihat dari kondisi penerima bantuan yang semakin sulit untuk bekerja dan pendapatan keluarga yang menurun. Walaupun tentu masih ada kekurangan, terutama dalam kuota Bantuan Sosial Sembako yang dirasa belum cukup. Bantuan sembako yang diberikan juga dapat membantu meringankan kondisi ekonomi keluarga penerima bansos, mereka merasa terbantu kurang lebih hingga setengah dari kebutuhan sehari-hari keluarga. Dari hasil penelitian ini diharapkan dapat memberikan masukan bagi pengambil kebijakan untuk memperbaiki program pemberian bantuan sosial sembako di tahap-tahap selanjutnya.

However, while each discipline has developed theory and models to explain the resilience of the systems they study (e.g., a natural environment, a community post-disaster, the human mind, a computer network, or the economy), there is a lack of over-arching theory that describes: 1) whether the principles that underpin the resilience of one system are similar or different from the principles that govern resilience of other systems; 2) whether the resilience of one system affects the resilience of other co-occurring systems; and 3) whether a better understanding of resilience can inform the design of interventions, programs and policies that address "wicked" problems that are too complex to solve by changing one system at a time? In other words (and as only one example among many) are there similarities between how a person builds and sustains psychological resilience and how a forest, community or the business where he or she works remains successful and sustainable during periods of extreme adversity? Does psychological resilience in a human being influence the resilience of the forests (through a change in attitude towards conservation), community (through a healthy tolerance for differences) and businesses (by helping a workforce perform better) with which a person interacts? And finally, does this understanding of resilience help build better social and physical ecologies that support individual mental health, a sustainable environment and a successful economy at the same time?"--
