Weird Tales launched in March of 1923 and the world was never the same again. While Pulp magazines had been around for some time Weird Tales was the first pulp magazine to specialize in super natural fiction. Weird Tales single handedly created the field of genre fiction as we know it. No longer did readers of Fantasy, Science Fiction, and Horror have to seek out single stories in otherwise mundane magazines now they had a magazine all of their own that published only the stories that they wanted to read. Collected in this anthology are over two hundred thousand words of some of the greatest stories ever published in the pages of Weird Tales. Included are: Red Nails by Robert E. Howard The Tree of Life by C. L. Moore Birthmark by Seabury Quinn Spider Mansion by Fritz Leiber Evolution Island by Edmond Hamilton The Monkey Spoons by Mary Elizabeth Counselman The Diamond Lens by Fitz-James O'Brien The Dunwich Horror by H. P. Lovecraft The Salem Horror by Henry Kuttner The Haunted Burglar by W. C. Morrow The Lost Gods by Dorothy Quick The Terror Of The Water-Tank by William Hope Hodgson The White Feather Hex by Don Peterson The Death of Ilalotha by Clark Ashton Smith Each Man Kills by Victoria Glad The Disc Recorder by August Derleth The Doors of Death by Arthur B. Waltermire Where Are You Mr. Biggs? by Nelson S. Bond The Invaders by Benjamin Ferris The Three Pools and the Painted Moon by Frank Owen Werewolf of the Sahara by G.G. After losing everything at the hands of his sadistic former master, the dashing wizard Felix Harrowgate has finally managed to reclaim his sanity, his magic, and his position in society. But even as he returns to his former place in the Mirador—Mélusine’s citadel of power and Cabaline wizardry— there are many eager to see him fall once more. Mildmay the Fox is an ex-assassin, a cat-burglar, and Felix’s half-brother. Tied to Felix by blood and magic, Mildmay goes where Felix goes—even into the Mirador, where only his link to Felix can protect him from his notorious past. There, Mildmay finds himself drawn to the alluring Mehitabel Parr, an actress who is hiding a dangerous secret. As an unwilling spy for the Bastion, a school of rival wizards who despise the Mirador and all it stands for, she has been forced to gather information from her friends and acquaintances. The Bastion desires above all else to bring down the Mirador, and they have learned that Felix is the key to its destruction. But Mildmay cannot let Felix stand alone, and will fight to save both his brother and his city from certain ruin.

From the USA TODAY bestselling author of Sweet Thing and Nowhere But Here comes a love story about a Craigslist “missed connection” post that gives two people a second chance at love fifteen years after they were separated in New York City. To the Green-eyed Lovebird: We met fifteen years ago, almost to the day, when I moved my stuff into the NYU dorm room next to yours at Senior House. You called us fast friends. I like to think it was more. We lived on nothing but the excitement of finding ourselves through music (you were obsessed with Jeff Buckley), photography (I couldn’t stop taking pictures of you), hanging out in Washington Square Park, and all the weird things we did to make money. I learned more about myself that year than any other. Yet, somehow, it all fell apart. We lost touch the summer after graduation when I went to South America to work for National Geographic. When I came back, you were gone. A part of me still wonders if I pushed you too hard after the wedding… I didn’t see you again until a month ago. It was a Wednesday. You were rocking back on your heels, balancing on that thick yellow line that runs along the subway platform, waiting for the F train. I didn’t know it was you until it was too late, and then you were gone. Again. You said my name; I saw it on your lips. I tried to will the train to stop, just so I could say hello. After seeing you, all of the youthful feelings and memories came flooding back to me, and now I’ve spent the better part of a month wondering what your life is like. I might be totally out of my mind, but would you like to get a drink with me and catch up on the last decade and a half? M

Bobby Dollar has a problem or four of epic proportions. Problem one: his best friend Sam has given him an angel's feather that also happens to be evidence of an unholy pact between Bobby's employers and those who dwell in the infernal depths. Problem two: Eligor, Grand Duke of Hell, wants to get his claws on the feather at all costs, but particularly at all cost to Bobby . Problem three: Bobby has fallen in love with Casimira, Countess of Cold Hands, who just happens to be Eligor's girlfriend. Problem four: Eligor, aware of Problem three, has whisked Casimira off to the Bottomless Pit itself, telling Bobby he will never see her again unless he hands over the feather. But Bobby, long-time veteran of the endless war between above and below, is not the type of guy who finds Hell intimidating. All he has to do is toss on a demon's body, sneak through the infernal gates, solve the mystery of the angel's feather, and rescue the girl. Saving the day should just be a matter of an eon or two of anguish, mutilation and horror. If only it were that easy.

Belief And Bloodshed written by James K. Wellman and has been published by Rowman & Littlefield Publishers this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2007-02-23 with Religion categories.

Intended for students as well as scholars of religion and violence, Belief and Bloodshed discusses how the relationship between religion and violence is not unique to a post-9/11 world_it has existed throughout all of recorded history and culture. The book makes clear the complex interactions between religion, violence, and politics to show that religion as always innocent or always evil is misguided, and that rationalizations by religion for political power and violence are not new. Chronologically organized, the book shows religiously motivated violence across a variety of historical periods and cultures, moving from the ancient to medieval to the modern world, ending with an essay comparing the speeches of an ancient king to the speeches of the current U.S. President.

Portraits Of White Racism written by David T. Wellman and has been published by Cambridge University Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 1993-09-24 with Social Science categories.

First published in 1977, Portraits of White Racism advanced a distinctively sociological theory of racism. Based on five case histories, it critically assessed the prevailing social-psychological paradigm that equated racism with prejudice and provided an alternative interpretation. Racism, the book argued, could be understood as a culturally sanctioned strategy for defending social advantage based on race; it was not simply the product of psychological abnormalities. In this revised edition the theoretical perspective is updated, taking into account recent theorising in the sociology of racism.
