Die Idee stammt aus den USA. Bundesverband Parken e.V. zum sicheren parken in der Corona-Krise: "Parkgaragen bieten Autofahrern ausreichend Platz für eine sichere Erreichbarkeit der Innenstadt – nicht nur, aber gerade auch in Zeiten von Corona. Seit Anfang den letzten Wochen sind auch die Innenstädte in Deutschland wieder belebter, da die Geschäfte wieder öffnen dürfen. Die gute Nachricht für alle Autofahrer: wenn Sie mit Ihrem eigenen PKW in die Innenstadt fahren und direkt eine Parkgarage ansteuern, erreichen Sie komfortabel und sicher ihr Ziel - immer mit dem lebenswichtigen Sicherheitsabstand und auf alle Fälle ganz ohne Gedränge. Das Auto hat, gerade jetzt in der Corona–Zeit, ganz große Vorteile und ist im Sinne der Abstands- und Hygiene-Regeln das sicherste Verkehrsmittel. „Die Parkhausbetreiber in ganz Deutschland sind auch in der Krise für Ihre Kunden da. Da das öffentliche Leben trotz der Wiedereröffnung der Geschäfte zum Großteil noch herunter gefahren ist, finden Sie bei unseren Mitgliedsbetrieben so gut wie sicher einen freien Parkplatz.“ Parkhäuser und Tiefgaragen leisten einen wesentlichen Beitrag für die Lebensqualität in der Stadt. Denn jedes Auto, das nicht am Straßenrand parkt, schafft dort Platz zum Beispiel für Fußgänger oder Fahrradfahrer. In Zeiten von Corona benötigen besonders diese Verkehrsteilnehmer ausreichend Raum, um den notwendigen Mindestabstand zueinander einhalten zu können. Uns-WIKIPEDIA beschreibt die Funktionsweise des Parkhauses: "In den meisten Fällen fahren die Fahrer ihr Fahrzeug selbst zum Stellplatz und holen es dort auch wieder ab. Neuere Entwicklungen gehen in Richtung der technisch aufwendigen, dafür platzsparenden vollautomatischen Parkhäuser, wo der Nutzer sein Auto lediglich in einer Parkbox abstellt, von wo es mit Hilfe von Fördertechnik automatisch in seine Parkposition bewegt wird. Möglich ist auch, dass das Fahrzeug durch Parkhaus-Mitarbeiter an einen Stellplatz gebracht wird, in dem der Fahrer sein Fahrzeug samt Schlüssel an das Personal übergibt. Für das Abstellen eines Fahrzeuges muss normalerweise eine Parkgebühr entrichtet werden. Aus Sicherheitsgründen werden viele Parkhäuser per Videokameras überwacht. In modernen Anlagen ist zudem meist eine Belegungserkennung installiert, die den Benutzern anzeigt, wie viele Parkplätze noch frei sind. Diese ist oft auch mit einem Parkleitsystem verbunden. In manchen Parkhäusern gibt es speziell für Frauen reservierte Parkplätze. Diese sind häufig breiter, befinden sich üblicherweise an gut einsehbaren Stellen, in der Nähe des Wachpersonals oder sie sind besonders gut mit Videokameras überwacht. Die Tatsache, dass es eine eigene Interessenvertretung für das Parken gibt, unterstreicht die Bedeutung der Vehikel-Abstellmöglichkeiten, meist im innerstädtischen Bereich. Parken e.V.: Der Bundesverband Parken e.V. hat über 200 private und kommunale Mitgliedsunternehmen, die in über 3200 Objekten in ganz Deutschland mehr als 1,1 Millionen PKW Stellplätze bewirtschaften. Von einem kleinen Parkplatz mit 30 Einheiten an einer Fußgängerzone bis hin zu riesigen Parkhaus-Systemen mit mehreren zehntausend Einheiten an einem großen Flughafen bilden sie die komplette Vielfalt der Welt des Parkens ab. In etwa zu gleichen Teilen sind Betriebe der öffentlichen Hand und private Unternehmen vertreten. Das Portfolio der rund 130 außerordentlichen Mitglieder setzt sich aus Dienstleistern und Lieferanten zusammen, mit denen die ordentlichen Mitglieder zusammenarbeiten: Hersteller und Lieferanten von Systemen zur Bewirtschaftung von Parkräumen, Baufirmen, Ingenieur-, Planungs-, Architektur- und Beratungsbüros sowie Start-Ups, die sich mit Mobilität beschäftigen.
