Excerpt from Ferry's Home Garden Catalogue, 1932 Fer ry's hollan der By eliminating the defects which we found in ordinary strains of Danish Ball Head and select ing for the more desirable features, we are able to offer a strain of late cabbage that has no equal. Round heads about six inches in diameter are borne on stems four to five inches in length. When set out early in July the plants reach maturity late in September and the heads remain in perfect condition until, cold weather makes harvesting necessary. If pitted or stored in a cold cellar at a tempera ture a little above freezing, they will keep perfectly throughout the winter and furnish a supply of prime cabbage whenever wanted. E-we have taken heads from storage on May first that were practically as fresh and crisp as when stored the previous November. Although Smaller than other late varieties the head is so solid that it weighs seven to nine pounds. The interior of the head is white, and the flavor is mild and sweet. Try this for late fall use and winter keeping. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. The Second World War is famed for being the conflict that changed the face of warfare, and it is the last that changed the face of the world. In addition to remembering those who passed away in those dark days of war, a sincere debt of gratitude is owed to all those now in their twilight years who gave all that they had for King and Country. In this new and revised third edition, with additional material to celebrate the lives of D-Day and Arnhem veterans, Gary Bridson-Daley presents 46 of over 150 interviews he conducted with veterans over recent years, adding to the history books the words and the original poetry of those who fought and supported the war effort to ensure freedom, peace and prosperity for generations to come. From each corner of the British Isles and every armed service, from Dam Buster George 'Johnny' Johnson through to riveter Susan Jones: heroes, all.

Hiroshima written by John Hersey and has been published by Vintage this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2019-06-05 with History categories.

Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist and bestselling author John Hersey's seminal work of narrative nonfiction which has defined the way we think about nuclear warfare. “One of the great classics of the war" (The New Republic) that tells what happened in Hiroshima during World War II through the memories of the survivors of the first atomic bomb ever dropped on a city. "The perspective [Hiroshima] offers from the bomb’s actual victims is the mandatory counterpart to any Oppenheimer viewing." —GQ Magazine “Nothing can be said about this book that can equal what the book has to say. It speaks for itself, and in an unforgettable way, for humanity.” —The New York Times Hiroshima is the story of six human beings who lived through the greatest single manmade disaster in history. John Hersey tells what these six -- a clerk, a widowed seamstress, a physician, a Methodist minister, a young surgeon, and a German Catholic priest -- were doing at 8:15 a.m. on August 6, 1945, when Hiroshima was destroyed by the first atomic bomb ever dropped on a city. Then he follows the course of their lives hour by hour, day by day. The New Yorker of August 31, 1946, devoted all its space to this story. The immediate repercussions were vast: newspapers here and abroad reprinted it; during evening half-hours it was read over the network of the American Broadcasting Company; leading editorials were devoted to it in uncounted newspapers. Almost four decades after the original publication of this celebrated book John Hersey went back to Hiroshima in search of the people whose stories he had told. His account of what he discovered about them -- the variety of ways in which they responded to the past and went on with their lives -- is now the eloquent and moving final chapter of Hiroshima.
