Postwar Fertility Trends and Differentials in the United States examines fertility trends and levels within social and economic subgroups in the United States. The major portion of the book deals with the time period 1945-1969; the last chapter extends the findings through the first half of the 1970s. The study is based on data made available by the release of the 1-in-a-100 Public Use Samples from the 1960 and 1970 United States Censuses. This book is the first comprehensive study of socioeconomic fertility trends and differentials to use these Public Use Samples. The book opens with a chapter that presents annual estimates of age-specific fertility rates by educational attainment of women and by race for the period 1945-1969. Separate chapters then examine the pattern of differentials in recent fertility in the late 1950s and the late 1960s for the U.S. population as a whole; changing fertility during the period 1955-1969; and differentials in fertility within and among members of various racial and ethnic minorities. Subsequent chapters deal with rural fertility trends and differentials; the effect of migration on fertility; and the similarity of all social and economic groups with respect to fertility trends.

The main objective of this research is to provide an in-depth study of fertility levels, trends and differentials in Yemen in 1997 and to explore them by residence, women's education and geographic regions. The study was accomplished by analyzing the Yemen Demographic and Health Survey implemented in 1997 using Period Parity Progression Ratios, as developed independently by Feeney and Yu and Ni Bhrolcahin in 1987.--Before 1990, Yemen was divided into two states, the southeastern known as the People's Democratic republic of Yemen and the northwestern, called the Yemen Arab Republic. Wide socioeconomic differences prevailed between the two parts of the countries After unification in 1990, Yemen has made pro-active effort to overcome the devastating socioeconomic situation and daunting population and health problems, particularly after the Gulf War.--The main results indicate a decrease in fertility levels in Yemen Fertility, that started to drop in the eighties, witnessed a slight increase early nineties as a result of the massive influx of migrants from the Gulf States Driven by the 1991 National Population Strategy, fertility then resumed declining to lower levels in the mid-nineties--Furthermore, this study suggests significant regional differentials In fact, urban areas and southeastern governorates seem to be more advanced in their fertility transition than rural and northwestern regions. In addition, despite the low level of women' education, the analysis suggests that secondary educated women tend to have lower fertility.
