From Neolithic to the present times stones in different shapes, forms and materials have been implicated in helping increase fertility in women. Many myths have arisen, not just folk tales based on memories of old visions. Stones are often raised up from the ground like the stones of Stonehenge or laid flat on the ground. They also can have big or small depressions in them. Some stones are in the shape of phalluses. Others can form arches or have holes right through them where people crawl, walk or communicate by holding hands. Stones are rubbed, touched or sat on today by female visitors in the hope that their magic will help them become pregnant and have children. Other fertility stones can be much smaller and these are often used as talismen carried in the pocket, handbag or on a necklace. Stone or crystal eggs are especially important and are still today believed to be linked with fertility and regeneration of life. Certain crystalline stones are believed to contain internal rhythms that link to the vibrational frequency of human tissue. The body needs certain feelings to function properly and enhance its performance. Belief in the power of stones can induce a calm environment, lower your blood pressure and reduce stress hormones, all of which will help in successful pregnancy. Just as seeing a tasty steak can elicit more enzymes in the gut in anticipation of a good meal, seeing and touching stones or listening to those who have become pregnant by believing in their powers will influence women. These beliefs must have some credence in helping fertility as they have been used in the past and continue to be used today. This book looks at different stones as well as the link of egg shaped stones with new life, and the origins of Easter and the resurrection of Jesus. Christ. It also looks at the importance of chocolate, especially eggs, in helping fertility. The birth rate in many countries has been falling for the last fifty years, and stones and chocolate could provide a way to successful pregnancy for many women today. So read on.

In 1914, a young Ukrainian family faces an uncertain future. With growing political unrest in the region, they are forced to make a difficult decision between remaining in their beloved homeland or reaching for a better life across the cold Atlantic. In the end, Myk makes the hardest choice of his life and leaves his wife and two young children, with hopes of quickly saving enough money to send for them. Things don’t go as planned: WWI breaks out shortly after his departure, leaving his family at the mercy of enemy forces, whose violence and cruelty drive his wife, Lilia, and their children out of their home village. Meanwhile, in Canada, Myk finds himself at the mercy of the authorities, who no longer look upon him as a welcomed immigrant worker but as a potential threat to national security. He is left without a means of contacting his loved ones, as he struggles to survive countless obstacles to achieving his family's dream of reuniting one day. A story of love, enduring patience, and faith, Heart Stones – A Ukrainian Immigration Story of Love and Hope is based on the real experiences of the author’s grandparents and paints a poignant and compelling picture that touches on the many historical events of the time with which many people today are sadly and blissfully unaware. This incredibly important story will change that... and its readers.

Madder Red written by Robert Chenciner and has been published by Routledge this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2003-09-02 with Political Science categories.

Madder red is an ancient dyestuff, extracted from the root of the madder plant, growing in many countries around the world. The secret and devilishly complex Oriental dyeing process to obtain the lustrous colour known as Turkey Red was avidly sought by Europeans, from the time before the fall of Ancient Rome. It was finally cracked by the French about 1760, who were able to dye wool, silk and cotton bright red. After the lowlands of the Caspian Caucasus had been subdued by the Russians in the early 1800s, madder was cultivated there and rapidly became the main crop. The quest for Turkey Red went hand in hand with an avalanche of scientific research, which not only improved the yield of dyestuff from the roots but led to its chemical synthesis and in 1870 the collapse of the world-wide madder industry. Many of the nascent dye companies grew into chemical giants of our time. Further regional and cultural background may be found in Chenciner's Daghestan: Tradition and Survival, also published in the Caucasus World series.

“Endlessly surprising.… Like the egg itself, this book is a perfect, miraculous package.” —Mary Roach, best-selling author of Fuzz An unconventional history of the world’s largest cellular workhorse, from chickens to penguins, from art to crime, and more. The egg is a paradox—both alive and not alive—and a symbol as old as culture itself. In this wide-ranging and delightful journey through its natural and cultural history, Lizzie Stark explores the egg’s deep meanings, innumerable uses, and metabolic importance through a dozen dazzling specimens. From Mali to Finland, mythologies around the globe have invested the egg with powers of regeneration and fecundity, often ascribing the origin of the world to a cosmic egg. An oracle to Romans, fought over by Gold Rush gangs, used as the foundation of the Clown Egg Registry, and blasted into space, the egg has taken on larger proportions than, say, the ovum of an ostrich. It has starred in global dishes from the Korean comfort food ttukbaegi gyeranjjim to the less regaled yet iconic soft-boiled egg. Stark writes a biography of French-born chef Jacques Pépin through his egg creations, and weaves in her personal experiences, like attempting to make the perfect omelet or trying her hand at pysanky—the Ukrainian art of egg decoration. She also explores her fraught relationship to the eggs in her body due to a familial link to cancer, and shares her delight in becoming a mother. Filled with colorful characters and fascinating morsels, Egg is playful, informative, and guarantees that you’ll never take this delicate ovoid for granted again.
