Ein Irrtum, wie die Langzeitstudien uber die Wissenschaftlerinnen an der Berliner Universitat und in der Kaiser-Wilhelm-Gesellschaft nachweist. Es gab durchaus Fortschritte, beginnend in der "Ara Althoff" im Kaiserreich, aber auch herbe Ruckschlage, insbesondere im "Dritten Reich". Die Hintergrunde fur diese Entwicklungen werden anhand empirischer und in die gesellschaftlichen Kontexte gestellten Studien herausgearbeitet. Welche Faktoren haben die Beschaftigung von Wissenschaftlerinnen an Universitaten und in Forschungsinstituten gefordert bzw. gehemmt? Welche Rolle spielten die politischen und okonomischen Rahmenbedingungen und welche institutionsbedingte und wissenschaftsimmanente Strukturen beeinflussten die Entwicklungen? Auf diese Weise entsteht ein lebendiges Bild von dem Auf und Ab einer Entwicklung, deren Resultate bis in die Gegenwart fortwirken und hochst aktuelle Fragen betreffen, sowohl einer allgemeinen als auch einer geschlechtsspezifischen Wissenschaftspolitik.
