Le présent document constitue le rapport de synthèse du projet national sur les micropieux qui s'est déroulé de 1993 à 2001. Les micropieux sont des pieux forés de petit diamètre (inférieur à 250 mm), très élancés et dans lesquels le frottement latéral, en général élevé, est privilégié par rapport à la pointe. Ils comportent des armatures métalliques scellées dans un coulis de ciment. Ils sont utilisés en groupe ou en réseau : en groupe lorsqu'ils sont verticaux, en réseau lorsqu'ils sont orientés et souvent croisés dans des directions différentes. Le champ d'application des micropieux est très vaste. Ils sont d'abord utilisés pour la reprise en sous-œuvre et le renforcement de bâtiments ou d'ouvrages existants, pour les fondations d'ouvrages neufs en terrains difficiles, pour la stabilisation de pentes et de talus ainsi que pour les soutènements, les tunnels et la protection de structures enterrées. On emploie également les réseaux de micropieux du fait de leurs remarquables capacités de résistance aux actions sismiques. Les éléments rassemblés dans cet ouvrage couvrent les principaux thèmes d'études et de recherches du projet national et intègrent les résultats expérimentaux obtenus à l'issue des essais en modèles réduits et en vraie grandeur réalisés. Les divers chapitres traitent notamment des techniques d'exécution des micropieux, de leur comportement élémentaire, ainsi que des propriétés et caractéristiques des groupes et réseaux de micropieux.
