Nachdem Giambattista Basile vorwiegend oral tradierte Märchenstoffe in der ersten europäischen Märchensammlung - dem Cunto de li cunti overo lo trattenemiento de peccerille (ab 1632 erschienen) - literarisiert hatte, finden seine Märchenversionen ca. 220 Jahre später durch Reoralisierung wieder Eingang in die mündliche Volkstradition. Diese Popolarizzazione - also der Rückfluß der schriftlich fixierten Basile-Märchen in die Volkstradition - ist nun durch die geleistete Forschungsarbeit von Fabienne Feller-Geißdörfer mindestens für Le tre cetra (V.9) und La mortella (I.2) in den ab 1850 niedergeschriebenen italienischen (Volks-)Märchen nachweisbar. Daß Basiles Einflußnahme an Sprach- und Gattungsgrenzen nicht Halt macht, zeigen die Reminiszenzen in den Werken Brentanos (Das Myrtenfräulein), Domenico Luigi Batacchis (Lo Zibaldone) - dies eine, ebenso wie einige Volksmärchentexte, neu erschlossene Quelle - und Carlo Gozzis (L'amore delle tre melarance). Letztgenannter wirkte, wie sich nun herausstellte, zudem als Multiplikator des Orangenmärchenstoffes. Basile-Reminiszenzen sind in Volksmärchen also belegbar. Dadurch kommt Basiles Märchen eine zentrale Mittlerfunktion zwischen den Realisierungen als Buchmärchen, oraler Tradierung und erneuter schriftlicher Fixierung zu.
