May It Fill Your Soul written by Timothy Rice and has been published by University of Chicago Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 1994-07-13 with Music categories.

In this vivid musical ethnography, Timothy Rice documents and interprets the history of folk music, song, and dance in Bulgaria over a seventy-year period of dramatic change. From 1920 to 1989, Bulgaria changed from a nearly medieval village society to a Stalinist planned industrial economy to a chaotic mix of capitalist and socialist markets and cultures. In the context of this history, Rice brings Bulgarian folk music to life by focusing on the biography of the Varimezov family, including the musician Kostadin and his wife Todora, a singer. Combining interviews with his own experiences of learning how to play, sing and dance Bulgarian folk music, Rice presents one of the most detailed accounts of traditional, aural learning processes in the ethnomusicological literature. Using a combination of traditionally dichotomous musicological and ethnographic approaches, Rice tells the story of how individual musicians learned their tradition, how they lived it during the pre-Communist era of family farming, how the tradition changed with industrialization brought under Communism, and finally, how it flourished and evolved in the recent, unstable political climate. This work—complete with a compact disc and numerous illustrations and musical examples—contributes not only to ethnomusicological theory and method, but also to our understanding of Slavic folklore, Eastern European anthropology, and cultural processes in Socialist states.

They welcome you to their blessings.” –Phil Johnson, Editor Emeritus, Pietisten Songs of My Soul is a collection of poetry, prayers, and meditations. It sings the song of a soul’s life journey and will connect you to your own soul and your own journey. God Walk written by Mark Buchanan and has been published by Zondervan this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2020-07-14 with Religion categories.

Drawing on Jesus's example of walking, bestselling author Mark Buchanan explores one of the oldest spiritual practices of our faith. What happens when we literally walk out our Christian life? We discover the joy of traveling at the speed of our soul. We often act as if faith is only about the mind. But what about our bodies? What does our physical being have to do with our spiritual life? When the Bible exhorts us to walk in the light, or walk by faith, or walk in truth, it means these things literally as much as figuratively. The Christian faith always involves walking out, as again and again we find the holy in the ordinary. "Come, follow me," Jesus said, and then he was off. The most obvious thing about Jesus's method of discipleship, in fact, is that he walked and invited others to walk with him. Jesus is always "on the way," "arriving," "leaving," "approaching," "coming upon." It's in the walking that his disciples are taught, formed, tested, empowered, and released. Part theology, part history, part field guide, God Walk explores walking as spiritual formation, walking as healing, walking as exercise, walking as prayer, walking as pilgrimage, suffering, friendship, and attentiveness. It is a book about being alongside the God who, incarnate in Jesus, turns to us as he passes by--always on foot--and says simply, "Come, follow me." With practical insight and biblical reflections told in his distinct voice, Buchanan provides specific walking exercises so you can immediately implement the practice of going "God speed." Whether you are walking around the neighborhood or hiking in the mountains, walking offers the potential to awaken your life with Christ as it revives body and soul.

When a thirteen-year-old boy declares war on the most powerful drug lord in the city, the fallout could cost both sides everything they care about. An undercover op goes awry, landing Detective Phillip "Dare" Darren in the hospital and his son, JT, back on the streets. Declaring war on the man responsible, JT returns to his life as an informant and swears to get his revenge by destroying Terrence Maxwell's entire empire. Revenge works both ways, and the kickback may destroy every aspect of Dare and JT's lives. Allegations surface that threaten to taint every case they've worked together. Worse, a vicious attack on JT threatens to shatter the bond between father and son. Confronted with proof that JT leaked the condemning evidence to the police and faced with a lifetime in prison, Dare finds himself questioning if even God has turned against him. It would take a miracle for JT to see him as anything more than a monster, and Dare finds his faith in miracles stretching pretty thin. As their lives unravel, Maxwell positions himself to unite all the gangs in the city under him. If Dare and JT lose faith in each other, the war has already been lost.

NATIONAL BESTSELLER • Anna Quindlen presents a “swift and compelling paean to the joys of books” (Booklist). “Like the columns she used to write for the New York Times, [How Reading Changed My Life] is tart, smart, full of quirky insights, lapidary, and a pleasure to read.”—Publishers Weekly “Reading has always been my home, my sustenance, my great invincible companion. . . . Yet of all the many things in which we recognize universal comfort—God, sex, food, family, friends—reading seems to be the one in which the comfort is most undersung, at least publicly, although it was really all I thought of, or felt, when I was eating up book after book, running away from home while sitting in a chair, traveling around the world and yet never leaving the room. . . . I read because I loved it more than any activity on earth.”—from How Reading Changed My Life

Human hunger for God is intense and universal. Even if suppressed or denied, it cries out silently from the depths. Such hunger is not a wish to know about God, but rather a quest to encounter Him. People want to touch, experience, and feel the divine – not just discover facets about God. - Dr. Jon L. Dybdahl Humans have tried since the beginning of their creation to fill the hunger, or empty space, inside of themselves with all that they can find on their own. The desire for money, homes, cars and various material possessions continues to fill our credit cards without filling our longing for "something." Dr. Jon Dybdahl brings his passion for teaching into this second edition of his successful book, Hunger: Satisfying the Longing of your Soul. Whether you are a seminary professor, a small group leader with 3-12 students or someone who seeks to move closer in your relationship to God, your Savior and Creator, you will find entrees which are biblically grounded to study and that are savory and healthy for your spiritual body.
