Dieser zweite Band über Film-Predigten schließt an den Dienst-am-Wort-Band Nr. 127 an und sucht den theologischen Sinn des »Gesetzes« in ausgewählten Filmen und bringt ihn mit dem Evangelium ins Gespräch. Diese Predigten lassen sich auf das Gesetz in seiner dreifachen Bedeutung ein: als Tora oder gute Weisung Gottes, als Nomos oder vielfältige, oft schicksalhafte Lebenswirklichkeit des Menschen, und als Jus oder Gesetz im Rechtssystem. Entweder finden sich Spuren zur befreienden Botschaft des Christentums in den Filmen selbst, oder aber das in ihnen zu erkennende Gesetz wird zum Anlass, es ins Licht des Evangeliums zu stellen, wie es jeweils anhand ausgewählter Bibeltexte prägnant zu präzisieren ist. Ein Essay entfaltet den theologischen Sinn der für die Hermeneutik der Filme leitenden Kategorien »Gesetz« und »Evangelium«.Neuere Filme haben ebenso ihren Platz in der Auswahl gefunden wie ältere Klassiker. »Muss seinen Sohn züchtigen, wer ihn liebt? « ist die Leitfrage der Predigt über »Das weiße Band«, das paulinische Lob der Liebe, sie höre niemals auf, Motto zu »An ihrer Seite«. Vielfältige Jenseitsdeutungen finden sich in »Das Ende ist mein Anfang«, eine Umkehr aus schweren Vergehen in »Tsotsi« und die alte biblische Einsicht, dass es dem Menschen nicht gut tut, allein zu sein, in »Into the Wild«. »Vertigo« gibt Anlass, über die Verstrickung in die Netze der eigenen Wünsche nachzudenken »2001: Odyssee im Weltraum« bietet einen Kontrast zur Himmelfahrt und »Man nannte ihn Hombre« zeigt eine aus Freiheit übernommene Verantwortung, die bis zur Stellvertretung geht. Gerahmt wird die Sammlung durch eine Adventspredigt zu »Die Kommissarin« und am Ende des Kirchenjahres durch das Thema der Versöhnung mit dem eigenen Leben in »Drei Farben Blau«.

Filme nehmen mit auf die Reise in andere Länder, andere Zeiten, andere Milieus, andere Lebenssituationen. Zudem können sie Geschichten erzählen. Indem der Zuschauer sich in diese Geschichten hinein nehmen lässt, findet er Anregung genug, über seine Existenz und das menschliche Miteinander, über die Chancen und Herausforderungen der Gegenwart, sowie über den Sinn seines Lebens nachzudenken. Nichts Menschliches und auch nichts Weltliches ist diesem Medium fremd. Gerade deswegen taugt es dazu, der Predigerin und dem Prediger zu Hilfe zu kommen. Entweder vermag ein Film das Beispiel zu geben, das die Erfahrung darstellt und präzisiert. Oder ein biblischer Bezug der Predigt wird Gründe dafür geben, sich konstruktiv und kritisch auf einen Film zu beziehen oder dessen Botschaft in den Blickwinkel des Evangeliums zu stellen.Indem Fragen des menschlichen Lebens, dargestellt in Filmen, ins Licht der evangelischen Botschaft gerückt werden, kann einerseits die religiöse Rede in Orientierung am Schriftwort Prägnanz, andererseits der Film in dieser Perspektive eine spezifische Deutung gewinnen. Lieder und Gebete betten die Predigten jeweils in den Gesamt-Zusammenhang des Gottesdienstes ein. Ein abschließender Essay entwickelt Grundzüge zu einer Theorie dieser Predigtform.

Kirchen sind der Ort, an dem sich sonntags eine christliche Gemeinde zum Gottesdienst versammelt. Gleichzeitig besucht jedes Jahr ein Millionenpublikum die Kirchen, um unabhängig von den Gottesdiensten einfach die besondere Atmosphäre der Räume zu erleben. Die religiöse Erfahrung der Transzendenz, die ein Gemeindemitglied in der Liturgie des Gottesdienstes erlebt, wird so überlagert von den ästhetischen Erfahrungen, die ein Besucher im Kirchenraum macht. Kirchen sind hybride Räume der Transzendenz. Es kann dort ein charmanter Übergang von ästhetischer zu religiöser Transzendenz stattfinden. Es kann aber auch ein Grenzkonflikt entstehen, wenn sich Religion und Kunst voneinander abgrenzen. Beides, Kontinuität und Diskontinuität, gleitende Übergange und harte Brüche eröffnet eine Kirche, sofern es in ihr Transzendenz im Plural gibt als Ereignis der Kunst und als Ereignis der Liturgie. Für diese Erfahrung hybrider Formen der Transzendenz brauchen wir auch heute noch Kirchen. Das ist die Leitthese dieses Buches. [Hybrid Spaces of Transcendence. Why We Still Need Churches Today. Studies on the Post-Secular Theory of Church Architecture] Churches are visited frequently for their architectural impact and not only out of explicitly religious interest. They can be hybrid spaces and combine urban event culture (aesthetic transcendence) and a religious experience. Likewise, non-religious buildings of architectural interest can also support a form of spiritual contemplation, evoking or reinventing a religious effect. Both forms of reception convey a mutual need for self-transcendence, this transformation being achieved by religious and/or aesthetic means. Bringing these different ways in which spaces are perceived together, various (church) interiors and art events are referred to: Art – in its individuality, as an enhancement to a room or as a complete installation provides, by means of its exceptional appeal, the possibility to extend perception, thereby is an aesthetic experience of transcendence of oneself.
