The untold story of a fascinating Renaissance man on an adventurous hunt for a lost civilization—an epic quest through castles, courts, mythologies, and the spectacular world of the imagination. What do Zeus, Apollo, and the gods of Mount Olympus have in common with Odin, Thor, and the gods of Valhalla? What do these, in turn, have to do with the shades of Hades, the pharaohs of Egypt, and the glories of fabled Atlantis? In 1679, Olof Rudbeck stunned the world with the answer: They could all be traced to an ancient lost civilization that once thrived in the far north of Rudbeck’s native Sweden. He would spend the last thirty years of his life hunting for the evidence that would prove this extraordinary theory. Chasing down clues to that lost golden age, Rudbeck combined the reasoning of Sherlock Holmes with the daring of Indiana Jones. He excavated what he thought was the acropolis of Atlantis, retraced the journeys of classical heroes, opened countless burial mounds, and consulted rich collections of manuscripts and artifacts. He eventually published his findings in a 2,500-page tome titled Atlantica, a remarkable work replete with heroic quests, exotic lands, and fabulous creatures. Three hundred years later, the story of Rudbeck’s adventures appears in English for the first time. It is a thrilling narrative of discovery as well as a cautionary tale about the dangerous dance of genius and madness.

Finding Atlantis - At Last! Book I "Searching for Atlantis," began when Archaeologist Dr. Henry Randalls received a challenge to find the legendary land of Atlantis, but ended when a rogue wave nearly took his life. Following his recovery he vowed to continue the hunt, along with his son and nephew and renowned oceanographer, Dr. Alice Fenstor. One of the highlights of their adventure includes the discovery of an ancient palace, strangely preserved in time, and encapsulated by a strange aura. Forcing the main door open, they enter only to be overcome by hostile guards and someone impersonating King Minos. After being imprisoned in a dungeon, the King soon arranges a "life or death" contest. To survive, Henry and Alice are forced to run through a maze of rooms and find the exit before a wild bull finds them! Further adventures eventually lead Dr. Randalls group to a final deadly trap set to ensnare them, silence them, and keep the truth about Atlantis. . . a permanent secret.

The New York Times Bestselling Travel Memoir! The author of Turn Right at Machu Picchu travels the globe in search of the world’s most famous lost city. “Adventurous, inquisitive and mirthful, Mark Adams gamely sifts through the eons of rumor, science, and lore to find a place that, in the end, seems startlingly real indeed.”—Hampton Sides A few years ago, Mark Adams made a strange discovery: Far from alien conspiracy theories and other pop culture myths, everything we know about the legendary lost city of Atlantis comes from the work of one man, the Greek philosopher Plato. Stranger still: Adams learned there is an entire global sub-culture of amateur explorers who are still actively and obsessively searching for this sunken city, based entirely on Plato’s detailed clues. What Adams didn’t realize was that Atlantis is kind of like a virus—and he’d been exposed. In Meet Me in Atlantis, Adams racks up frequent-flier miles tracking down these Atlantis obsessives, trying to determine why they believe it's possible to find the world's most famous lost city—and whether any of their theories could prove or disprove its existence. The result is a classic quest that takes readers to fascinating locations to meet irresistible characters; and a deep, often humorous look at the human longing to rediscover a lost world.

The idea of Atlantis - the "lost" island subcontinent often idealized as an advanced, utopian society holding wisdom that could bring world peace - has captivated dreamers, occultists and New Agers for generations. This book embarks on a hitherto unexplored path, trying to understand whether there really was an original Egyptian text from which the information about Atlantis was taken, and trying to discover its content. As result, Atlantis is no longer the 'lost continent', but we have found it.

First of all, it is my duty to make it clear for the reader that this book is a very condensed summary of a series of books that have been already published, more than thirty books written by the author about historical and scientific Atlantology. On this occasion, the author has tried to summarize as much as possible the extensive footnotes, dense critical apparatus, and extensive bibliographic references from previous editions, which were aimed at a more academic or specialized public. The purpose of this brief work is to give a fast and simple overview of the hypothesis, investigations, contributions and findings related to Atlantis carried out by the author over the last two decades, no matter the level of expertise, focusing particularly on those issues that have been handled – and only briefly explained- by the author in the fascinating documentary, Atlantis Discovered, produced by James Francis Cameron, Yaron Niski y Felix Golubev, and directed by the Canadian award winning filmmaker Simcha Jacobovici for National Geographic. In this regard, I hope this book serves as a complement to improve data and details that could not be appreciated when watching the documentary, for obvious production reasons. No documentary, no matter how lengthy is, can gather all the details of a research, let alone when the author’s participation is only partial, having to share it with some other experts who proposed different hypotheses related to the location of Atlantis in the Mediterranean and Azores area. Two hours are not enough, nor would be three or four more hours, to sum up, albeit briefly, several hypotheses. At least a series of ten lengthy chapters would be required to develop more fully the author’s investigations about Atlantis. For these reasons, among other ones, but specially due to the high level of complexity (both linguistic and interpretative) that results from underwater works, everything related

The Road To Ubar written by Nicholas Clapp and has been published by Houghton Mifflin Harcourt this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 1999-06-16 with Social Science categories.

The author recounts his discovery of a lost Arabian city in this “captivating story of [a] stupendous archeological achievement” (Kirkus). No one thought that Ubar, the most fabled city of ancient Arabia, would ever be found, if it even existed. According to the Koran, the ancient trading outpost was sunk into the desert as punishment for the sins of its people. Over the centuries, many searched for the legendary “Atlantis of the Sands”—including Lawrence of Arabia—yet the city remained lost. Until now. Documentary filmmaker and amateur archaeologist Nicholas Clapp first stumbled on the legend of Ubar in the 1980s while poring over historical manuscripts. Filled with overwhelming curiosity, Clapp led two expeditions to Arabia with a team that included space scientists and geologists. In The Road to Ubar, he chronicles the grand adventure that led to a historic discovery.
