A unique look into the minds and creative processes of contemporary Irish women poets, this book focuses on the transformation of their life experiences into poetry that blends personal identity with national identiry. It assembles many voices around common themes that are emerging to change Irish poetry permanently. Patricia Boyle Haberstroh, whose book Women Creating Women: Contemporary Irish Women Poets was a Choice Outstanding Academic book in 1996, shows in this new work how nine of the most prolific Irish women writers generate their poetry, broadening our understanding of the context of the poems. She pairs each author's verse with a companion (and often autobiographical) prose piece to illuminate the ways in which the poetry expresses the poet's personal experience. As women in a politically and religiously charged, male-dominated genre and country, these poets feel compelled to transcend daily life by articulating against the "norm." In this book, they describe the issues they confronted in their growth as poets and the strategies they developed to translate life into art. In linking these poets—drawn from Northern Ireland and England as well as the Republic of Ireland—Haberstroh throws into relief the characteristics that define their unique, individual subjects, themes, and styles.

1968 was a time of Coming of Age for the world, and for a young man awakening to his Life and to his Art.Poised on the cusp of adulthood, DH feels that his life until now has been one of formless existence and vague desires'a life of imitation and emulation rather than of innovation and creation. What will it take to unleash his Art Spirit and to harness his Romantic nature? Will he ever find his Muse? The months that follow are revealed as a wondrous time of camaraderie, Art, and Romance that shape the unformed post-adolescent into a confident and self-aware young man and artist. It's about Fellowship and Art and Art Spirit. It's about Finding One's Passion. It's about Love Found and Love Lost and Lost Love. It's about Dreams and Aspirations and Inspiration. This story is an impressionistic account of people and events in the life of the author as recorded by him in 1968. The names of the participants, and certain specifics of some of the events have been altered for the preservation of anonymity and exercise of artistic license. The work is based on journal entries from the time, and as such, accurately depicts the life and aspirations of the author.

Within the Frame is a book about finding and expressing your photographic vision, specifically where people, places, and cultures are concerned. A personal book full of real-world wisdom and incredible images, author David duChemin (of pixelatedimage.com) shows you both the how and the why of finding, chasing, and expressing your vision with a camera to your eye. Vision leads to passion, and passion is a cornerstone of great photography. With it, photographs draw the eye in and create an emotional experience. Without it, a photograph is often not worth—and can’t capture—a viewer’s attention. Both instructional and inspirational, Within the Frame helps you on your photographic journey to make better images of the places and people you love, whether they are around the world or in your own backyard. duChemin covers how to tell stories, and the technology and tools we have at our disposal in order to tell those narratives. Most importantly, he stresses the crucial theme of vision when it comes to photographing people, places, and cultures—and he helps you cultivate and find your own vision, and then fit it within the frame.

A memoir by a member of the Incredible String Band that charts a journey from hippie utopia to post-Woodstock implosion. Between 1967 and 1971 Rose Simpson lived with the Incredible String Band (Mike Heron, Robin Williamson and Licorice McKechnie), morphing from English student to West Coast hippie and, finally, bassist in leathers. The band's image adorned psychedelic posters and its music was the theme song for an alternative lifestyle. Rose and partner Mike Heron believed in, and lived, a naive vision of utopia in Scotland. But they were also a band on tour, enjoying the thrills of that life. They were at the center of "Swinging London" and at the Chelsea Hotel with Andy Warhol's superstars. They shared stages with rock idols and played at Woodstock in 1969. Rose and fellow ISB member Licorice were hippie pin-ups, while Heron and Robin Williamson the seers and prophets of a new world.

Hotel Goodbye Cinder Beginning with a foreword that draws attention to the Finnish word sisu, this publication carries an important message about grief. It features two short stories that will be a part of a future collection called The Bendiness of Rivers. This work is precursory to that collection. Norma West, a grieving thirty-year-old woman, finds herself in 2020 in a Toronto hotel room during the coronavirus pandemic in a no-way-out type of situation. It has cost her more than losing her shoes. She feels duped by death. Through the stories, “Hotel Goodbye” and “Cinder,” Garie McIntosh takes us on a journey of grief, memories and restoration that leads us to finding out what grief has to do with love. Grief can be that emotion that helps you face reality and say goodbye, especially when it is necessary. That process can also ground you.
