Written by leading researchers and practitioners, Finite Element Analysis of Elastomers blends established knowledge in this important area with up-to-date research topics, practical hints and thought-provoking new ideas. The Editors, have compiled contributions by leading researchers and practitioners in finite element analysis (FEA): the result is an authoritative and agenda-setting volume. Finite element modelling can only be as good as the constitutive laws (material models) used, the means of obtaining and fitting the data for those models, and the accuracy of the boundary conditions. (The latter is of particular importance in cases of contact.) All three questions recieve particular attention in this book, as do aspects such as the interpretation and accuracy of FE outputs, with many practical examples being given. There is a short section on fatigue and failure, where particular concerns and approaches in this challenging area are discussed. Comprehensive coverage is given to particular issues concerning the problems of working with real elastomers, especially filled materials. Key features include: Constitutive laws for hyperelastic and inelastic aspects of behaviour Appropriate test methods Curve fitting to obtain constants for constitutive laws Interpretation of finite element results Modelling of crack growth Example applications.

Elastomeric components are widely used in engineering. Increasing demands are placed on them to withstand hostile conditions such as high temperature and corrosive environments. These demands make it harder to predict likely service life or improve design to ensure their longer-term performance. This important book reviews the wealth of research on understanding fatigue and failure in elastomers, and how this understanding can be used to predict and extend their service life. The first part of the book reviews factors determining ageing behaviour such as heat, corrosive environments, wear and cracking. It also discusses the strengths and weaknesses of current service prediction models. The second part of the book focuses on analysing and improving the design and service life of particular applications such as O-rings, bearings, springs and valves. With its distinguished editor and team of contributors, Elastomers and components: service life prediction; progress and challenges is an invaluable reference for engineers involved in the design and use of elastomers. Looks at the wealth of research on understanding fatigue and failure in elastomers Discusses the strengths and weaknesses of current service prediction models An invaluable reference for engineers

A Simple Transversely Isotropic Hyperelastic Constitutive Model Suitable For Finite Element Analysis Of Elastomers written by and has been published by this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2011 with Elastomers categories.

A transversely isotropic fiber reinforced elastomer's hyperelasticity is characterized using a series of constitutive tests (uniaxial tension, uniaxial compression, simple shear, and constrained compression test). The material is found to be nearly incompressible. A suitable transversely isotropic hyperelastic invariant based strain energy function is found to provide a reasonable fit of the material data. This material model is implemented in a finite element method by creating a user subroutine for a commercial finite element code. Finite element analysis of the tests confirms the suitability of the proposed strain energy function for small to moderate stress analysis of fiber reinforced elastomers. A method of determining the material coefficients for this efficient stable hyperelastic model from simple laboratory tests is demonstated.
