This book targets an audience/market of other anglers and vacationers seeking fun, excitement, or maybe adventure. This book combines a collection of stories based mainly on facts, elaborated upon with poetic license and spiced with a bit of wit and humor. While the book targets fish as the main subject, it is not always the catching of fish being highlighted; rather, it is the journey and search for these elusive fishing adventures that draws the reader into the drama. It is hoped the reader will identify with characters in some stories and recall his own experiences afield or on the water.

Fishing For God And Vice Versa written by Bill Rooney and has been published by Xulon Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2015-03-23 with Religion categories.

Any fisherman can attest to this undeniable truth: when it is just you, a fishing pole and the water, God's loving presence can feel closer to you more than anything else. Author and longtime angler Bill Rooney can confirm this truth from personal experience, feeling the peace of God while bobbing in the waterways of the United States and even Canada. He recalls several of his favorite fishing and camping memories, as well as those of friends and recognized authority figures, in his new book of short stories, Fishing for God (and vice-versa). The articles, published pieces from the author's years freelance writing for various magazines, combine fishing tips, stories and even scriptures that include one of the most appreciated fisherman, Simon Peter. The truth he hopes to reveal is that God calls us to become more like disciples of Jesus, embodying fishers of men and not just of fish. Rooney has been married for more than half a century to the same long-suffering Italian woman (who will undoubtedly be put up soon for canonization as a saint), and they have four grown children-Karen Lazo, Kevin, Brian, and Kristin Davidson-and five grandchildren. He and Rita live in the little town of Buena Vista in central Virginia where the Blue Ridge and the Appalachians bump into each other. On his daily morning hikes he praises God for faith, family, friends, and good health.

Savage Gods Silver Ghosts written by Ehor Boyanowsky and has been published by D & M Publishers this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2010-03-23 with Biography & Autobiography categories.

They met at a poetry reading, but Ehor Boyanowsky and British Poet Laureate Ted Hughes became friends through their shared — and unquenchable — passion for fishing. Against the backdrop of the Dean River, one of the greatest steelhead rivers in the world, the two men explored their mutual regard for the planet's wild places. Boyanowsky draws on personal correspondence, interviews, and journal entries to recreate their encounters in the 1980s and '90s, when Hughes was at the height of his power and influence, and to paint an intimate portrait of a lifelong outdoorsman, conservationist, and artist. The book also goes behind the creative process as fishing logs transmute into poetry, talk becomes action, and the queen's bard composes impromptu bawdy verse on the drive to a stag party. Boyanowsky realizes he's been privileged to see a Hughes who is different from the public persona. In these tales of male friendship and the primal act of fly fishing, the reader gets glimpses of the "nature red in tooth and claw" that drew Ted Hughes to Canada — and rekindled his love of the natural world.

The Gods Of The Sea written by Fynn Holm and has been published by Cambridge University Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2023-07-31 with History categories.

Japan is often imagined as a nation with a long history of whaling. In this innovative new study, Fynn Holm argues that for centuries some regions in early modern Japan did not engage in whaling. In fact, they were actively opposed to it, even resorting to violence when whales were killed. Resistance against whaling was widespread especially in the Northeast among the Japanese fishermen who worshiped whales as the incarnation of Ebisu, the god of the sea. Holm argues that human interactions with whales were much more diverse than the basic hunter-prey relationship, as cetaceans played a pivotal role in proto-industrial fisheries. The advent of industrial whaling in the early twentieth century, however, destroyed this centuries-long equilibrium between humans and whales. In its place, communities in Northeast Japan invented a new whaling tradition, which has almost completely eclipsed older forms of human-whale interactions.
