Não tenho tranquillidade, dentro do meu cere bro desencadea - se uma violenta tempestade, febre escalda - me O sangue, sinto os nervos irritados, afinados, exacerbados. Atravéz deste delirio morbido, embriaga-me o perfume de flôres suspeitas, offuscam - me reflexos de espelhos tenebrosos, perturbam - me desejos bizarros, vejo imperios em agonia, cidades de oiro fluctuando em crepusculos barbaros, populações de andro gynos e de hermaphroditas em exodo, satyrospersiguindo nymphas ensanguentadas, esphyn ges com olhos de esmeralda. Sou um galé dessa atróz enfermidade que dissolveu tantas almas nobres, com um nojo immenso de tudo, um grande despreso pela vida e até pela propria arte, como se sentisse n'alma a vacuidade de ser, de existir e de aspirar. Neste doloroso silen cio nocturno, em que tudo se confunde em meu ser, O passado com seus encantos e 0 presente com seus tristes presentimentos, Gustavo d'agui lar, desfeito e pallido, na gravidade consciente deste dia de desastres e irresoluções, apparece-me para annunciar a grande desgraça.
