Sie bildete den ersten Eingriff der Sowjetischen Militäradministration in Deutschland (SMAD) und der KPD in die bestehende Besitzstruktur der Sowjetischen Besatzungszone (SBZ). Die SMAD schrieb der Bodenreform eine wichtige Aufgabe zu. Die Verfügung über die Ressource Boden hatte in der Zeit nach dem Krieg nicht nur eine zentrale Bedeutung für die Sicherung der Ernährung, sondern für die KPD, später dann die SED, auch ein legitimes Mittel zur Herrschaftssicherung. Die Enteignung von Gutsbesitzern beseitigte die traditionelle Vorherrschaft der Großgrundbesitzer auf dem Gebiet der Sowjetischen Besatzungszone. Aus der Bodenreform ging eine neue soziale Gruppierung, die Neubauern, hervor, die ökonomisch gefestigt und in die ländliche Gesellschaft integriert werden musste. Eine Gruppe der Neubauern stellten die Vertriebenen dar, die im folgenden als Zielgruppe der Bodenreform näher untersucht werden sollen. In der Arbeit „Die Bodenreform und die Vertriebenen in der SBZ/DDR“ soll ermittelt werden, in welchem Ausmaße die Vertriebenen in der SBZ in den Jahren 1945 bis 1950 bei der Landverteilung benachteiligt wurden, wie die Interessen der Vertriebenen Berücksichtigung fanden und wie sich die wirtschaftliche Situation der Vertriebenen-Neubauern darstellte. Ausgangspunkt der Betrachtung ist die Rolle der Bodenreform als Integrationsmoment. Die Literaturlage zu diesem Thema ist breit gefächert. Zu diesem Zweck werden hauptsächlich Darstellungen von Arnd Bauerkämper , Wolfgang Meinicke und Manfred Wille herangezogen, weil sie sich maßgeblich an der wissenschaftlichen Diskussion zu diesem Thema beteiligen. Ergänzend dazu werden Darstellungen über die Länder Sachsen (Stefan Donth ), Sachsen-Anhalt (Torsten Mehlhase ), Thüringen (Steffi Kaltenborn ), Mecklenburg-Vorpommern (Michael Rusche ) und Brandenburg (Arnd Bauerkämper) verwendet. Als Vertreter der verwendeten DDR-Darstellungen ist die Monographie von Horst Barthel zu nennen. Sie gewährt Einblicke in diverse Statistiken, die für das Bearbeiten des Themas unabdinglich sind.

Croatian Radical Separatism and Diaspora Terrorism During the Cold War examines one of the most active but least remembered groups of terrorists of the Cold War: radical anti-Yugoslav Croatian separatists. Operating in countries as widely dispersed as Sweden, Australia, Argentina, West Germany, and the United States, Croatian extremists were responsible for scores of bombings, numerous attempted and successful assassinations, two guerilla incursions into socialist Yugoslavia, and two airplane hijackings during the height of the Cold War. In Australia alone, Croatian separatists carried out no less than sixty-five significant acts of violence in one ten-year period. Diaspora Croats developed one of the most far-reaching terrorist networks of the Cold War and, in total, committed on average one act of terror every five weeks worldwide between 1962 and 1980. Tokić focuses on the social and political factors that radicalized certain segments of the Croatian diaspora population during the Cold War and the conditions that led them to embrace terrorism as an acceptable form of political expression. At its core, this book is concerned with the discourses and practices of radicalization—the ways in which both individuals and groups who engage in terrorism construct a particular image of the world to justify their actions. David Cautes wide-ranging study examines how outstanding novelists of the Cold War era conveyed the major issues of contemporary politics and history. In the United States and Western Europe the political novel flourished in the 1930s and 1940s, the crisis years of economic depression, fascism, the Spanish Civil War,the consolidation of Stalinism, and the Second World War. Starting with the high hopes generated by the Spanish Civil War, Caute then explores the god that failed pessimism that overtook the Western political novel in the 1940s. The writers under scrutiny include Hemingway, Dos Passos, Orwell, Koestler, Malraux, Serge, Greene, de Beauvoir, and Sartre. Strikingly different approaches to the burning issues of the time are found among orthodox Soviet novelists such as Sholokhov, Fadeyev, Kochetov, and Pavlenko. Soviet official culture continued to choke on modernism, formalism, satire, and allegory. In Russia and Eastern Europe dissident novelists offered contesting voices as they engaged in the fraught re-telling of life under Stalinism.
