Inhaltsangabe:Gang der Untersuchung: Im Mittelpunkt der Arbeit stehen drei Konfliktfelder um Zeit - erstens wird der Interessenkonflikt zwischen Unternehmens- und Arbeitnehmer/innen-Interessen behandelt, zweitens der zwischen den Geschlechtern und drittens der zwischen Arbeitsplatzinhaber/innen und Erwerbslosen. Untersucht wird, inwieweit flexiblere Arbeitszeitregelungen den Interessen und Präferenzen,von Arbeitnehmer/innen Rechnung tragen und ob sie zu einer Umverteilung der Arbeit sowohl zwischen den Geschlechtern als auch unter den Erwerbspersonen insgesamt und damit zugleich zum Abbau der Arbeitslosigkeit beitragen (können). Zur Einführung behandelt ein Kapitel die Bedeutung von Zeit in kapitalistischen Gesellschaften. Das nächste Kapitel untersucht am Beispiel von Teilzeitarbeit Auswirkungen der Veränderung der Arbeitszeitdauer im Hinblick auf die drei Konfliktfelder. Daran anschließend folgt ein Kapitel über Gleitzeitarbeit, das die Bedeutung der Arbeitszeitlage untersucht. Schließlich wird am Beispiel der Metallindustrie die Relevanz neuer, tariflicher Flexibilisierungsoptionen hinsichtlich der dargestellten Interessenkonflikte aufgezeigt. Zu den einzelnen Gebieten werden Ergebnisse einschlägiger Untersuchungen sowie empirisches Material herangezogen und kritisch diskutiert. Gesetzliche und tarifvertragliche Rahmenbedingungen runden das Bild ab. In ihrem Resümee kommt die Autorin zu einer eher skeptischen Einschätzung der derzeitigen Arbeitszeitregelungen im Hinblick auf Zeitsouveränität" und Arbeitsumverteilung". Dennoch wagt sie einen optimistischeren Ausblick für die Zukunft, der auf der Notwendigkeit von Arbeitszeitflexibilisierung und Arbeitsumverteilung gründet.
