Provide effective counseling to members of single-parent families With more than half of all first marriages ending in divorce, it’s time to re-think the notion that “divorce” means “failure.” Therapy with Single Parents focuses on the strengths of the single-parent family rather than its weaknesses, stressing the need to look at the socially constructed norms, values, and definitions associated with marriage and family in order to provide effective counseling. This unique book examines experiences that are common to single parents and presents interventive strategies for treating single-parent family issues, drawing on clinical case studies to provide technical knowledge in everyday language. Current research shows that single parents account for 27 percent of family households that include children under 18 and that the number of single mothers in the United States more than tripled between 1970 and 2000. In the first biography of Kennedy, Sherie M. Randolph traces the life and political influence of this strikingly bold and controversial radical activist. Rather than simply reacting to the predominantly white feminist movement, Kennedy brought the lessons of Black Power to white feminism and built bridges in the struggles against racism and sexism. Randolph narrates Kennedy's progressive upbringing, her pathbreaking graduation from Columbia Law School, and her long career as a media-savvy activist, showing how Kennedy rose to founding roles in organizations such as the National Black Feminist Organization and the National Organization for Women, allying herself with both white and black activists such as Adam Clayton Powell, H. Honor Hull (1810-1888), a daughter of John Hull, was born near Canton, Stark County, Ohio. A lineage of his ancestry is included, although the authors state this lineage "... is given without definite proof that this John Hull (no. 3023) is our John Hull, father of our Honor." (p. 1). Honor married James F. Baker (1806-1850) in 1828 in Wayne County, Ohio, and they had nine children, all born in New Pittsburg, Wayne County, Ohio. Honor married Daniel Kiplinger (1816- 1862) in 1853 in Ashland County, Ohio, and they had one daughter. He died serving with the Ohio Volunteer Infantry during the Civil War. Descendants and relatives lived in Ohio, Michigan, Missouri, Colorado, Texas, Washington, California and elsewhere.
