Tegel Airport, opened in 1974 in West Berlin, was not only finished under budget and on time but today also remains an impressive work of art. For their design of the terminal, the architects chose the figure of a large hexagon with edges of 120 meters. A sophisticated use of space created an ?airport of short distances,? with as little as twenty-eight meters between the doors of the cars and the aircraft.0In 2020, it appears that TXL will in fact be closed. Photographer Peter Ortner captures his uniquely personal view of the airport complex with the remnants of its past glory?the details so familiar to anyone who has traveled through or waited inside Tegel.

Berlin Tegel TXL is an icon of modern architecture. With the striking hexagonal shape of the main terminal building and its concept of check-in counters right at each gate, Tegel has made air travel history. Berliners are passionately nostalgic about Tegel, since it served as the window to the wider world for the once-isolated West Berlin. At the same time, this airport represents the start of architects Gerkan, Marg and Partners' (gmp) success story. Together with Klaus Nickels, the recently graduated Hamburg architects won the 1965 competition for building the new airport, which opened in 1974. This book celebrates TXL's whole story and glory. Numerous historical and contemporary photos, together with plans and drawings from gmp's archive show off Tegel's vibrant color scheme, overall design, and structural details down to the check-in counters with their rounded edges. Meinhard von Gerkan and Volkwin Marg provide a detailed account of this early commission, and the book includes an essay by Jürgen Tietz on the specific qualities of this unique air terminal and its historical significance. The first and definitive building monograph on Berlin's iconic Tegel Airport shows this architectural icon in its original appearance, without later alterations and additions. Richly illustrated with previously unpublished images, TXL. Berlin Tegel Airport traces the history of Tegel's construction and forty-five years of operations.

Over a period of eighteen months, a select group of more than 40 international artists and writers focused their attention on Berlin’s Tegel Airport, which is scheduled to close in 2015. This combined book and DVD is the outcome of an open-ended inquiry that embodies new perspectives and approaches to the problem of urban renewal, social organisation, mobility, regeneration and the legacy of modernist architecture. The group observed how the airport is currently used, engaged in new activities and imagined how it might function in the future. With contributions by Jon Klein, Miguel Santos, Michelle Atherton, Dale Holmes, Águeda Simó and many others.

Seminar paper from the year 2018 in the subject Business economics - Miscellaneous, University of Applied Sciences Worms, language: English, abstract: The underlying paper was written with the purpose of understanding the reasons for project failure. Project failure in terms of project delays, cost increases and quality losses. In order to get a better understanding of the general failure reasons, the paper covers a real-time example of project failure. The chosen project is the construction project of the international airport Berlin Brandenburg (BER). The first chapter covers general aspects and characteristics of a project. Afterwards, the initial BER project plan and the current development state of the airport is explained. In the next chapter, the paper shows up a best-practice approach of how to successfully execute a construction project and how to meet arranged deliverables in a certain quality within the defined time and budget guidelines. Based on this knowledge, the following chapter deals with the actions that led to project failure of the BER project and shows up the deviations from the best-practice approach. It was concluded that several factors lead to project failure and that communication plays a significant role for project success.
