Microfluidics is a microtechnological field dealing with the precise transport of fluids (liquids or gases) in small amounts (e.g. microliters, nanoliters or even picoliters). This book provides a useful introduction into this burgeoning field, and a specific application of microfluidics is presented. It also gives a survey of microfluidics.

Fluidics originated as the description of pneumatic and hydraulic control systems, where fluids were employed (instead of electric currents) for signal transfer and processing. Microfluidics and Nanofluidics: Theory and Selected Applications offers an accessible, broad-based coverage of the basics through advanced applications of microfluidics and nanofluidics. It is essential reading for upper-level undergraduates and graduate students in engineering and professionals in industry.

Since its discovery at Harry Diamond Laboratories in 1959, fluidics has gradually been developed into a viable technology. This report provides a description of fluidic components and systems now in use or ready for use in many applications. The fluidic technology provides sensing, computing, and controlling functions with fluidic power through the interactions of fluid streams. Since fluidics can perform these functions without mechanical moving parts that will wear out, it has the advantages of simplicity and reliability. Other advantages discussed are the low cost, environmental insensitivity, and safety of fluidic systems. (Author).

Now in its Third Edition, the Artech House bestseller, Fundamentals and Applications of Microfluidics, provides engineers and students with the most complete and current coverage of this cutting-edge field. This revised and expanded edition provides updated discussions throughout and features critical new material on microfluidic power sources, sensors, cell separation, organ-on-chip and drug delivery systems, 3D culture devices, droplet-based chemical synthesis, paper-based microfluidics for point-of-care, ion concentration polarization, micro-optofluidics and micro-magnetofluidics. The book shows how to take advantage of the performance benefits of microfluidics and serves as an instant reference for state-of-the-art microfluidics technology and applications. Readers find discussions on a wide range of applications, including fluid control devices, gas and fluid measurement devices, medical testing equipment, and implantable drug pumps. Professionals get practical guidance in choosing the best fabrication and enabling technology for a specific microfluidic application, and learn how to design a microfluidic device. Moreover, engineers get simple calculations, ready-to-use data tables, and rules of thumb that help them make design decisions and determine device characteristics quickly. addressed at the design stage to reduce the risk of failures in the field is presented. The book includes technical details of all state-of-the-art Li-on energy storage subsystems and their requirements, and provides a system designer a single resource detailing all of the common issues navigated when using Li-ion batteries to reduce the risk of field failures. The book details the various industry standards that are applicable to the subsystems of Li-ion energy storage systems and how the requirements of these standards may impact the design of their system. Checklists are included to help readers evaluate their own battery system designs and identify gaps in the designs that increase the risk of field failures. The book is packed with numerous examples of issues that have caused field failures and how a proper design/assembly process could have reduced the risk of these failures.

Fluidic Components and Equipment 1968—9 presents information on a wide range of fluidic components, systems, techniques, and equipment. A few of the many ways in which fluid interaction can be utilized to perform useful functions are explained, and typical elements, circuits, and systems are described. This book is comprised of six sections and opens with an overview of the fundamentals of fluidic devices, including their four basic functional component parts: power source, receiver, control input, and control region. The next section presents several of the major areas that must be considered in developing functional networks from individual elements, including noise considerations in signal amplification, impedance matching for maximum momentum transfer, and circuit techniques for temperature and pressure tolerance. Pulse elements and circuits are then described, giving examples of how various digital functions can be implemented using jet wall-attachment elements. The remaining sections discuss jet beam deflection, confined-jet amplifiers, and vortex amplifiers, along with some practical applications of fluidic devices and principles. This monograph will be a valuable resource for engineers active or interested in acquiring data on the techniques and equipment used in fluidics.

A Forecast Of Applications Of Fluidics written by Lyndon S. Cox and has been published by this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 1972 with categories.

A survey has been made of potential Army applications of fluidics and anticipated advances in the fluidic technology. This survey includes inputs from industry, universities, and government. Nearly one hundred possible applications were identified in the government portion of the survey; the industrial survey identified a like number. Twelve of the government-identified systems were studied in some detail, and of these twelve, only one system was determined to be not feasible by 1990. That system was, however, found to be infeasible using any technology. A technological forecast predicts that most fluidic performance will continue to improve through 1990, and a brief limits study suggests that even the predicted 1990 performance values are well short of the ultimate or limiting values.
