Lo studio dei tracciati di cantiere e i segni incisi sulla pietra come meccanismi di trasmissione delle regole teoriche dell’architettura storica alle pratiche dei cantieri edilizi ha offerto ultimamente nuovi spunti di riflessione sull’organizzazione e la gestione del lavoro legato alla costruzione antica. Sulla base delle riflessioni metodologiche e le prime classificazioni proposte dagli editori in un precedente volume pubblicato in questa stessa collana, questo lavoro cerca di arricchire il panorama degli studi su un tema generalmente poco trattato. Questo secondo volume sui tracciati di cantiere nasce, infatti, dall’esigenza di riunire in un contributo unico le ricerche internazionali realizzate, negli ultimi anni, da diversi gruppi di studiosi. L’obiettivo principale è quello di offrire un panorama diacronico sull’impiego di queste pratiche e un’analisi dei diversi punti di vista nella lettura dei procedimenti di pianificazione e produzione dell’architettura. ANTONIO PIZZO, 1971, Archeologo e Cientifico Titular del CSIC (Spagna) presso l’Instituto de Arqueología (Mérida). Ha diretto varie ricerche, scavi archeologici e collaborato con diverse istituzioni scientifiche europee. È uno dei promotori ed editori della Serie Arqueología de la Construcción. "Largely as a result of Leonardo's innovative work for the Sforza court in Milan, a rich vein of naturalism developed in North Italian art during the late fifteenth century. Questioning the strongly classicizing, idealized style dominant in areas south of the Apennines, artists in the region of Lombardy turned to an investigation of the natural world based on direct observation and adherence to strict visual truth. This heritage of realism continued to be of key importance for more than two hundred years, finding its greatest expression in the art of Caravaggio and eventually influencing the course of Baroque painting throughout Europe. Religious scenes, portraits, and landscapes were all transformed by this new naturalism, which also spurred an interest in still lifes and genre scenes as subjects for paintings. Painters of Reality, titled after an influential exhibition held in Milan more than fifty years ago, is the first study in English of this major aspect of Italian art. Reexamining the subject in light of copious subsequent scholarship, the authors of this volume contribute major essays that define and discuss naturalism as it appeared in both Lombard paintings and drawings. There is also a fresh consideration of the Northern Italian predecessors whose influence is apparent, either directly or indirectly, in the paintings of Caravaggio. More detailed discussions of the subject center on the precise elements that constituted Leonardo's "hypernaturalism"; the important schools of painting that arose in Brescia, Bergamo, Cremona, and Milan; and Caravaggio's most notable successors in northern Italy, who kept Lombard realism alive into the eighteenth century. Attraverso i risultati dell’indagine archeologica condotta dalla Soprintendenza per i Beni Archeologici dell’Emilia Romgna in occasione dei lavori di restauro e ristrutturazione viene ricostruita la storia del Monastero di S. Antonio in Polesine, uno dei complessi monastici più antichi di Ferrara e l’unico con contin ità di vita dal medioevo fino ai nostri giorni. Il risultato complessivo, esito assai riuscito di uno sforzo organizzativo e scientifico condotto in maniera egregia da Chiara Guarnieri, è un affresco composito in cui l’analisi tradizionale dei reperti e dei contesti di scavo, compito primario dell’archeologia, si sposa con il loro inserimento nel contesto storico e monumentale del complesso monastico, in un arco cronologico che va dal XIV al XVIII secolo.
