L'objet de cette étude consiste à analyser le rapport entre la foi et le fanatisme. La plupart des réflexions menées sur ce fait relèvent simplement les intérêts politiques et culturels liés au culte religieux. La religion en tant qu'un fait social n'échappe pas à l'agressivité naturelle de l'homme. Cependant, au-delà de cette vision fataliste, il importe de relever l'ambivalence de la foi dans la pratique religieuse. Sous un premier aspect, il convient de reconnaître que la foi religieuse engendre le fanatisme puisqu'elle est à la base dogmatique, absolutiste et sectaire. Il faut souligner sous un second aspect que la foi religieuse également fournit les moyens efficaces dans la remédiation à la violence née du fanatisme. Cette thèse se fonde sur la pratique de la foi dans le monothéisme, et ce, au regard de la pensée philosophique et religieuse de Blaise Pascal.
