Questo testo di Fondamenti di Costruzione di Macchine presenta una introduzione alla meccanica del continuo ed alla teoria della trave. In anni dominati dall’uso massiccio degli Elementi Finiti strutturali, l’impiego di strumenti analitici per l’analisi delle tensioni, quali quelli qui presentati, tipici della Scienza delle Costruzioni, appare quasi anacronistico. Invece, l’autore ritiene che, per interpretare correttamente l’output tensionale degli Elementi Finiti evitando di limitarsi ad un impiego puramente “meccanico” di tale strumento di calcolo, bisogna possedere nozioni di teoria dell’elasticità e di teoria della trave, ed occorre conoscere i teoremi più importanti utili per la soluzione di strutture iperstatiche. Il testo comprende capitoli che riguardano i fondamenti della teoria dell’elasticità e della teoria della trave, la nozione di struttura iperstatica e la sua risoluzione tramite il Principio dei Lavori Virtuali, il teorema di Castigliano, ed il teorema di Mohr. Si accenna anche al teorema di Betti. Concludono il libro due capitoli applicativi, che mostrano come tracciare con sicurezza il diagramma del momento flettente in una trave, e come prevedere la deformata qualitativa di un portale. Tali capitoli costituiscono un ponte dal mondo teorico della Scienza delle Costruzioni verso il campo più applicativo della Costruzione di Macchine, e regalano allo studente il colpo d’occhio per individuare velocemente le incongruenze tra un diagramma del momento flettente ed i carichi applicati alla struttura, e per scoprire gli errori presenti nella deformata di un portale. Il contenuto conferisce ai temi e metodi classici della Scienza delle Costruzioni un particolare respiro capace di catturare l’attenzione degli allievi meccanici, illustrando l’utilità di tali metodi tramite varie analisi di strutture tipicamente meccaniche. Vengono così esaminati analiticamente il piede e la testa di biella, il cappello, lo spinotto, e diverse applicazioni industriali. In particolare, viene illustrata in dettaglio la genesi di alcune formule ancora oggi proficuamente impiegate nel dimensionamento iniziale della biella e dello spinotto. Il volume è corredato di circa 100 esercizi svolti e di 200 esercizi proposti, e di circa 500 figure chiarificatrici.

Vengono, inoltre, trattati i seguenti argomenti: collegamenti non smontabili: chiodature e saldature assi e alberi molle linguette e chiavette collegamenti filettati e viti di manovra cuscinetti di rotolamento ruote dentate trasmissioni Nelle intenzioni degli autori il testo è stato strutturato per fornire i dati e le metodologie di base per la selezione e la progettazione degli elementi e dei gruppi meccanici a coloro che, naturalmente, posseggano già le conoscenze fondamentali acquisite nei corsi di Disegno meccanico, Scienza delle costruzioni, Meccanica applicata, Tecnologia meccanica e Scienza dei materiali; senza tuttavia dimenticare che lo sviluppo del progetto richiede anche l’utilizzo di manuali, normative e pubblicazioni specialistiche contenenti nomenclature, dati e metodologie teoriche, numeriche e sperimentali che evidentemente non si possono ritrovare nei testi di base. Rivolgiamo un ringraziamento particolare all’Ing. Antonio Scippa, autore del capitolo relativo agli aspetti tecnologici e costruttivi di cui tener conto nel progetto delle macchine.

The book is intended as an advanced undergraduate or first-year graduate course for students from various disciplines, including applied mathematics, physics and engineering. It has evolved from courses offered on partial differential equations (PDEs) over the last several years at the Politecnico di Milano. These courses had a twofold purpose: on the one hand, to teach students to appreciate the interplay between theory and modeling in problems arising in the applied sciences, and on the other to provide them with a solid theoretical background in numerical methods, such as finite elements. Accordingly, this textbook is divided into two parts.
