Excerpt from Footprints in My Own Life Upon these sea-bleached sands I wrote my name, but one swell of the rising waters wiped it out forever; so will the fast flowing billows of time soon erase my name from the records of earth, and the world will pass on as though a generation of us had never existed. It was these thoughts that inspired Foot prints. Often had the author looked upon the foot prints in the sand and beheld them soon erased by one dash of the foaming billows. Likewise he viewed the cherished events in his life and he foresaw that like the footprints upon the sand, they too would be effaced. In a strongly bound, cloth covered volume, of perhaps his own manufacture, he transcribed in a faultless manner the following pages, which the pub lishers have reproduced almost without a change. It is solely with a desire to preserve from the billows of time these footprints in an earnest Christian life, that. No one, even myself, ever thought I would and could write poetry. Yet with God, all things are possible! I have not been perfect, no, not even close. I have fallen short many times in my life, yet God is always there to forgive and guide me home. I can never thank Jesus enough for all He has done for me! After the loss of my wife of forty-three years, I felt so alone and hurt. God comforted me and sent to me a wonderful Christian lady to be my love again. It has been a wonderful miracle to see how God does care and loves each one of us and knows what we need in this life. "Making Your Own Footprints in the Sand" was my first real poem and has always been my favorite, and it continues to help me and guide me through life's good days and stormy days. At the end of this book, I give several thoughts that God has given me over the years. I hope and pray they bless you as well! The stories that are in this book are my doors being opened and closed as God was sending me to care for these patients who were being mistreated. I gave my patients the commitment of honesty, integrity, and my skills until God decided to move them on to be with Him. When a door is closed, it is time to move on to a door that God has opened for me to protect and care for another patient. These patients that I am sharing with you were instrumental in my life for a period of thirty years. I was not able to have conversations with the senility or traumatized patients from strokes. Our communications consisted of one word of response such as a yes or no, if I could hear it. I learned to be perceptive of their needs and with our own form of communication. The stories that are in this book are my doors being opened and closed as God was sending me to care for another patients who were being neglected. I was to protect and care for another patient. Should you recognize any of these stories or experiences that I have described, or they appear to be a familiar scenario, the names have been changed to protect the patients, the families, the care givers, and any others that were involved. God sent me on these journeys for all of us to benefit and know He is in control at all times. This book is dedicated to my patients, who were victimized by selfish, greedy, uncaring family members and friends. The comradery I had with these patients who appreciated my protection and care have left their "footprints in my heart" forever.
