The memoir of two young dancers from vastly different cultures, tells of their ill-fated marriage during Iran's Islamic Revolution. For several years Mohammad and I had wanted to write about a significantly dramatic part of our personal journey through life. We eventually put pen to paper after meeting up again in England. 'For the Love of Mohammad A Memoir' is a true story of love and all its complexities. It is also the story of a young English girl living in a Middle Eastern country which is torn apart by an Islamic revolution and war, and the story of a young Iranian man struggling to come to terms with his homosexuality after being manipulated into marriage whilst being deeply in love with another man. Mohammad and I feel our story is also more than just a story of our love. As the world continues to struggle with human rights issues, in particular the human rights of the LGBTQ communities in such countries as Iran, Uganda, Pakistan, Nigeria, India, Russia and often in our own backyard; Mohammad and I believe that our story speaks out for those who have their voices silenced; contributes to the awareness of their situation; and carries with it a message of hope and courage by demonstrating how, with the power of love, courage and understanding, life's adversities can be overcome.

Queer. Muslim. Arab American. A proudly Fat femme. Randa Jarrar is all of these things. In this "exuberant, defiant and introspective" memoir of a cross-country road trip, she explores how to claim joy in an unraveling and hostile America (The New York Times Book Review). Randa Jarrar is a fearless voice of dissent who has been called "politically incorrect" (Michelle Goldberg, The New York Times). As an American raised for a time in Egypt, and finding herself captivated by the story of a celebrated Egyptian belly dancer's journey across the United States in the 1940s, she sets off from her home in California to her parents' in Connecticut. Coloring this road trip are journeys abroad and recollections of a life lived with daring. Reclaiming her autonomy after a life of survival--domestic assault as a child, and later, as a wife; threats and doxxing after her viral tweet about Barbara Bush--Jarrar offers a bold look at domestic violence, single motherhood, and sexuality through the lens of the punished-yet-triumphant body. On the way, she schools a rest-stop racist, destroys Confederate flags in the desert, and visits the Chicago neighborhood where her immigrant parents first lived. Hailed as "one of the finest writers of her generation" (Laila Lalami), Jarrar delivers a euphoric and critical, funny and profound memoir that will speak to anyone who has felt erased, asserting: I am here. I am joyful.

From the daughter of Muhammad Ali comes an intimate portrait of the heavyweight boxing champion and a final love letter from a daughter to her father. With the decline of Ali’s voice, his recordings are important to history as they are to his personal legacy. At Home with Muhammad Ali offers a candid look at a man who was trying to find his purpose in the world as he realized he was coming to the end of his lucrative sporting career, all the while trying to balance fatherhood and his worldly and political obligations. Additionally, Hana tells of the everyday adventures that the family experienced around the house—with visitors like Michael Jackson and Clint Eastwood dropping by. And for the first time, Hana’s mother Veronica will share her memories of the 12-year relationship with Muhammad. A moving story of the former Empress of Iran -- now in paperback. At the age of twenty-one, Farah Diba married the Shah of Iran, Mohammed Reza Shah Pahlavi. A loving marriage, the raising of four children, and a devotion to social and cultural causes marked her early years as queen, although there were already signs of grave national diversions on the horizon. Twenty years later the dream had turned into a nightmare: demonstrations and riots shook the country, and Farah and the Shah decided to leave in order to avoid bloodshed. With the hardcover publication of An Enduring Love, a New York Times bestseller (extended list) in 2004, Farah Diba, wife of the last emperor of Iran, broke her silence and told the wrenching story of her love for a man and his country. Her compelling memoir offers an intimate view of a time of upheaval, but stands above all as a powerful human document from one whose life was caught up in an epic and tragic national struggle.

In his own words, the heavyweight champion of the world pulls no punches as he chronicles the battles he faced in and out of the ring in this fascinating memoir edited by Nobel Prize-winning novelist, Toni Morrison. Growing up in the South, surrounded by racial bigotry and discrimination, Ali fought not just for a living, but also for respect and rewards far more precious than money or glory. He was named Sportsman of the Century by Sports Illustrated and the BBC. Ali redefined what it meant to be an athlete by giving hope to millions around the world and inspiring us all to fight for what is important to us. This is a multifaceted portrait of Muhammad Ali only he could render: sports legend; unapologetic anti-war advocate; outrageous showman and gracious goodwill ambassador; fighter, lover, poet, and provocateur; an irresistible force to be reckoned with. Who better to tell the tale than the man who went the distance living it?

Whether negotiating the mind-games of border security services or performing ablutions in a London bathroom, Mohammad Chowdhury’s life travelling the world brings daily challenges. Border Crossings is a thrilling ride from the city of minarets to the heights of picture-perfect skyscrapers. A journey of finding one’s own identity, it is the story of a British born, Bangladeshi man of Muslim faith, trying to reconcile his western and eastern identities and the inconsistencies between the two. Hustling his way through days and nights negotiating one cultural micro-adjustment after another, Chowdhury’s story reflects our own struggles to find a place where we truly belong. ‘What a journey this is! From west to east, from insider to outsider, from the mundane to the transcendent, Border Crossings spans remarkable physical, cultural and spiritual terrain, and beautifully distills the push and pull of a life lived between worlds. These are the snapshots of a life so familiar, yet so different from my own — the kind of book I might have written if only my life had been much more interesting.’ — Waleed Aly ‘Border Crossings is a fascinating journey of straddling dual cultures as Mohammad Chowdhury negotiates his identity and faith to find a sense of belonging as a global citizen. A powerful story about building trust and connections across diverse societies and borders that reflects the struggles of many to find a place to belong.’ — Dr Bulent Hass Dellal AO ‘With the polyglot Mohammad Chowdhury to guide us through a world in flux, we benefit at every one of life’s checkpoints from his humane appreciation of the stories that bind us all together.’ — Professor Nicholas Farrelly, University of Tasmania ‘Border Crossings is the story of all migrants living in any corner of the world. Chowdhury’s enthralling voice tells a deeper story beyond the personal. It portrays the incredible journey of someone living and growing up in diaspora. If you are a migrant, it echoes your own beliefs and experiences, and if you have never experienced migration in your life, it opens your eyes to the contradiction of beauty and pain that is the life of a migrant.’ — Dr Nira Rahman, University of Melbourne

The extraordinary life of the man who founded Islam, and the world he inhabited - and remade. Muhammad's was a life of almost unparalleled historical importance; yet for all the iconic power of his name, the intensely dramatic story of the prophet of Islam is not well known. In The First Muslim, Lesley Hazleton brings him vibrantly to life. Drawing on early eyewitness sources and on history, politics, religion, and psychology, she renders him as a man in full, in all his complexity and vitality. Hazleton's account follows the arc of Muhammad's rise from powerlessness to power, from anonymity to renown, from insignificance to lasting significance. How did a child shunted to the margins end up revolutionizing his world? How did a merchant come to challenge the established order with a new vision of social justice? How did the pariah hounded out of Mecca turn exile into a new and victorious beginning? How did the outsider become the ultimate insider? Impeccably researched and thrillingly readable, Hazleton's narrative creates vivid insight into a man navigating between idealism and pragmatism, faith and politics, non-violence and violence, rejection and acclaim. The First Muslim illuminates not only an immensely significant figure but his lastingly relevant legacy.
