Excerpt from Foreign Exchange Tables There are some countries for which conversion tables might be made but which would be so little used that it would not be desirable to burden the pages of a book with them. In the case of China, there are no tables for taels above 52% cents. Tables for Indian rupees or Portuguese milreis would be voluminous and little used. On South and Central American countries, drafts are commonly written in either United States or English money, and tables for rates not here given Would only serve the useless purpose of filling up space. There are other tables besides conversion tables given in this book which ought alone to be worth its price. These are the various profit tables for checks and drafts sold over the counter, and interest and other tables in the back of the book for figuring the value of bills of exchange. Then, too, the tables convert instantly any rate expressed decimally into one as commonly quoted by bankers. And their relation one to another make them available for figuring arbitrages by a short method. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Excerpt from High Frequency Data and Volatility, in Foreign Exchange Rates Since the consecutive prices are nonstationary, it is appropriate to study changes in prices. Like many other researchers, I prefer to study the compound return (which is defined as the difference in the logarithmic value of the bid prices). Table 2 shows the summary statistics of the tick-by-tick returns. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Excerpt from Foreign Exchange The rapid and extensive developments in the field of com mercial credits during and after the war have made necessary three chapters on this subject, two of which are entirely new. Also the swift and surprising changes which recent years have witnessed in national monetary systems have greatly affected the part of the book devoted to monetary standards in relation to exchange rates. New sections have likewise been needed on methods of quoting rates, on the gold-bar standard, on central bank methods and measures in dealing with the exchanges and the gold movement, on the so-called sterilization of gold, as well as on the war and the exchanges, the silver and the paper exchanges, the purchasing power parity theory, export and import bounty effects of shifting exchanges, etc. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Excerpt from Domestic and Foreign Exchange, Vol. 17 There is nothing mysterious or difficult about foreign exchange when it is studied in the light of domestic exchange, which is easily understood, and in this volume I have endeavored to explain the essential principles of both domestic and foreign exchange in simple language, and with suitable illustrations. In this volume practically every form of exchange has been dealt with, and it is hoped that it will prove useful to the exporter and importer, as well as to business men in general, who are interested in the general aspects of the subject. The tables dealing with gold values are all original calculations, based on data obtained from the various mints, while for some of the silver values I am indebted to Mr. Gonzales' excellent little book "Modern Foreign Exchange," and for general matter to my own book, "Notes on Foreign Exchange." I have also to acknowledge my indebtedness to Mr. Major B. Foster for valuable assistance in writing the two chapters on Domestic Exchange, particularly the second chapter dealing with the exchange situation in the United States. Excerpt from Forecasting Foreign Exchange Rates Subject to De-Volatilization Since the high frequency exchange rates are characterized by excessive noise, we add an extra condition in (4) to make the dv-series less sensitive to the noise. Often, we see that price jumps back and forth due to noise. When the first jump comes, it may significantly bias the volatility estimate. Waiting for next data point can minimize the impact of noise on our dv-series. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Excerpt from International Exchange, Vol. 18 International exchanges have an unusual interest at the present time, and there is much confusion of thought in regard to the influences which fix exchange rates. They are in a highly sensitive state and like a person with shattered nerves react somewhat violently to changes in external conditions. This obscures to the onlooker the working of the fundamental principles which govern international payments. An examination of the seemingly mysterious but in reality simple underlying principles of international exchange should prove interesting not only to the exporter and the importer, but to business men in general who are concerned in watching the factors which make for a nation's welfare. It would be impossible to understand exchange in its present dislocated and abnormal state without a thoro knowledge of its operation under normal conditions, and for this reason the basic principles which govern exchange under the latter have been fully explained, altho reference to the more important factors which influence the exchanges today has been frequently made. In preparing the present volume, we have drawn largely upon the material furnished by Mr. E. L. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books.
